Murder 2 Extraordinary First Week
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara opened well at multiplexes with collections around 70-80% on average in big cities. The prime multiplexes had higher occupancies. Outside big cities multiplexes were 60-65%. Single screens were not so good with 40-45% opening. Many had expected Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part Two to have better occupancies but Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was ahead at most places. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is mainly for urban centres and should score well in big cities but other centres look set to struggle.
Another report claimed that Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has had a good first weekend of around 26.25-26.50 crore nett as per early estimates due to fantastic multiplex business especially in metros.
The approx breakdowns were 7.40 crore nett on Friday, 8.90 crore nett on Saturday and 10 crore nett on Sunday.
The film film did huge occupancies at multiplexes on Saturday and Sunday while on Sunday the single screens were also up a bit. Most shows at metro multiplexes on Saturday and Sunday were housefull.
The film's business reminds one of My Name Is Khan last year, it is faring identically and doing bumper business in the same theatres as My Name Is Khan did bumper business. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has a lower weekend than My Name Is Khan as that film fared better at single screens over the first weekend and was released on more single screens. The lifetime business of My Name Is Khan is probably what Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara can achieve but will depend on how well Monday and Tuesday sustain.
Concerning Murder 2, it had an extraordinary first week of 36.25 crore nett approx. The film performed superbly well all over India. The 8th day has seen a huge drop at multiplexes due to the competition but may stabalise over the weekend. In the 2nd week, Murder 2 has emerged the second blockbuster of 2011 and the second biggest hit of the year after Ready.
The film grossed around 5.75 crore nett in its second week taking its total to nearly 40.75 crore nett. The second week should do around 9 crore nett giving it 44 crore nett in two weeks.
The business is just phenomenal considering the limited multiplex release and though second weekend dropped it will still manage a distributor share of around 25 crore. The last time a small film was a success of this magnitude was Vivah in 2006 which managed to do a share of 23 crore.
Least but not last, Delhi Belly sustained very well in week two as it collected 16.25 crore nett approx taking its two week total to around 52 crore nett. This means that it has now attain the Super Hit status which is fantastic for yet another production from Aamir Khan house. There are some rumours that says that Aamir Khan is contemplating about the sequel of the movie with additional actors and actresses being added to the starcast.
