Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

Your weekend greatness!

I am so fortunate to have two very special men in my life. One of them is my Godson. I remember the day when I heard he was a little cell struggling in his mummies tum and cried the day I first time I saw him. I loved rocking him to sleep at night and snuggling up reading bedtime stories with a torch under the blankets, or making up our own adventures of Pirates and mystical wonderlands. Now I see him as a young man who makes me so proud for many reasons.

This weekend I was feeling a little low and as usual he could sense it without a word. He barged his way into the bedroom, as he does, at a ridiculous time of Saturday morning, heading straight for the DVD shelf and picking out the normal 'boys' movie that he loves. I peeked at him from under the covers, eyes still full of early morning dreams, and without a word he put it back and instead chose 'Anna and The King', before crawling under the covers and turning on the little DVD player on the bedside table.

For the next few hours we watched, chatted, sang, dozed and generally just enjoyed our time in our little cocoon before having to head out into the real world. I knew, as soon as the first word was uttered, that something was coming that would need a little twisting of my arm.

"Aaa-aaasssshhhh?" When your name has only one syllable and it is broken into two you know something big is coming.
"Yes honey." Stir the tea and wipe an inconsiderate hair poking a tired eyeball.

"Can you take me to watch 'The Simpsons Movie' this afternoon?" There was a little hesitation there, a scuffle of the foot on the patterned kitchen floor.
"Hmmmmm" I look at him, standing there looking so small, all that hope in his eyes. "You know I don`t watch that show."
"Yeah, but.... um... it`s funny." I lift him up onto the kitchen table and do our little Eskimo kisses thing we have. This would be where the 'Puss in Boots from Shrek' eyeballs come in.... tink, tink....
"How much do you love me?" I can`t help the grin spreading across my face. Little schmuck knows I can`t say no to him. He knows he has me cornered. He knows that one big hug is all it takes. "Yes ok... let`s go and see what time it is on"

The movie has not even started yet ~chuckle~ it only starts next week or something so I know what`s going to happen next weekend....but I just love that we have the relationship we have and how special a simple hug can be.

The other special person is my brother. It was his birthday yesterday. Unfortunately he lives far away so I never got to spend the day with him and tried to ring him... but he was busy doing BOY things with all his mates. I spoke to his Stepmum and she was simply gushing about how well he is going.
"When are you coming to visit us? We miss you, you know. Everyone loves him, but you are his world. He is taller than me know, you know!" Instant tears start to collect and a hand grabs at the voicebox.
Finally I managed to get hold of him today. This very grown up voice answered the phone. I had to ask who was speaking.
"Ahh Aaaaaa-aasssshhh, you know who it is." Chuckling on the other end of the phone. The two syllable thing is something my boys have in common!
"Happy birthday dude!" That`s all I can say before I have to take a breath. We share the oddest sense of humour. Once, when the overseas family were over and all of us spent the day together in Sydney him and I were crying tears together on the train and no one understood our joke. We had decided we were going to be window cleaners for Centrepoint Tower. To this day neither of us could tell you why we found that funny, but at the time we did and we could not speak for laughing... for at least half an hour. Even now we laugh over it.

On that same day we tried our hand at a little dancing and singing at Darling Harbour. We put our hat on the ground and probably made complete fools of ourselves, but we had fun and made a buck... which our cousin threw in the hat! He has been through so much in his life and let me tell you... he is going to be on our TV screens soon... playing for the Wallabies... and being the next pinup boy on all the teenage girls locker doors. He has no ego and does not let anything get to his head. He has the intelligence of Einstein and the sense of humour of Bill Cosby... yet he has the humble nature of Mother Theresa.

After our long conversation it was decided a visit in the near future is needed.... and the last little 'Love you" that was thrown in at the end just melted my heart and sealed the deal.

So these two people made my otherwise less than perfect weekend ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!

What made your weekend worthwhile?

*ps it`s under ROCK because these people ROCK MY WORLD!!!!

Ash,

I was struck down with a god awful cold and spent the weekend in bed. So this story was the nicest thing that happened to me this weekend.

Beautiful story. Both your godson and brother sound like wonderful people. Where would we be without wonderful people in our lives?

Hi Ash

Ditto to all the other comments. What beautiful men you have in your life.

I'm also with you and Dusk on the Simpsons thing ... don't watch it, don't like it.

I had a quiet weekend with my men and my girls. I look at my family sometimes and just realise how lucky I really am.

Gorgeous post, Ash.

Hiya Dusk

I thought of you this weekend... and wondered how the evening was going for you. I am glad that you were with special people... they make everything all better don`t they!

siiiggghhhh I really cannot stand 'The Simpsons' so the thought of spending two hours watching them in an entire movie makes my head hurt... but it`s one of those things I gotta do.... see if it was on this weekend it would be finished now....

Tell me about it - he knows just the right look to twist me around his little finger! hahaha ya gotta love it!

My brother is wonderful... a Knight he is... I haven`t been a very good sister recently but thank you

The Rugby will definitely be something to look forward to and it makes me SOOOO happy that he chose Wallabies. He used to always say he was going back to play for the Springboks.... but this was the first time he has said The Wallabies which means he is starting to settle. YAY! I got the full run down of injuries, plays, teams.... whew!

River.... swwwoooonnnnn!

big warm huggins to ya

Have you been visiting Lily? I hope you feel better now too... at least it was bed weather this weekend so you didn`t have to feel like you were missing too much?

I don`t think I`d like to think about that..

Hi Andrea

I had a quiet weekend with my men and my girls. I look at my family sometimes and just realise how lucky I really am.

I often wonder if they can bring such happiness to me what a mother must feel like with their childre, Makes you wonder how children could ever be abandoned or mistreated!

Glad you had a good weekend with your special people.

Yeah Simpsons is gonna be a strain to say the least....

hugs

Hi Lara

Welcome to the Club... the anti-Simpsons fan club. I really don`t get what the hype is all about with this show! Maybe the movie will be half decent? I`m hoping for a miracle here!

Your weekend sounds great! Always good to just kick back and relax.
