This is not a story, it is a reason why I'm not writing for this blog right now. It is a copy from another blog, because I'm running out of time on this computer.
Unfortunately I have to keep this very brief. I have two computers, a laptop, which is my baby and I love it to death, almost, and a desktop, which I like but don't love, it's older, and very useful for bookkeeping, and such, but the Laptop is fast, and I can take it anywhere.
Well a very sad ouchie happened a week ago Monday, my bad hand, the one that sometimes doesn't hold on to things very well, let go of a cup of coffee, unfortunately, it did so next to my laptop and bounced of a table top and spilled the coffee into the laptop. Also, unfortunately, it had milk and sugar in it. I used to drink coffee black, then I just added milk, but recently I started adding a teaspoon of sugar. Sugar eats components, mostly circuit boards.
Upon spilling the coffee, as I was swearing a blue streak, I turned the computer upside down, letting it drain as fast as it would, I then managed, working with it upside down, to shut the computer down neatly, in other words I didn't just crash it.
My friend Jerry came over, took it apart and cleaned it inside and out. Sadly, he didn't rescue the keyboard. It is kaput, dead, done, finished, non-functional, broken and not working at all. I have a keyboard hooked up via a USB port, it helps so I can work with the laptop, which has all my work on it, so I kind of need to access the or I'm out of business, completely.
Oh, yes I do have backups, they aren't as current as I'd like, but I have them, on all 12 DVDs which would take hours to restore, and my desktop isn't running Vista, it runs XP and that means the files are not downward compatible. So, I'm working on the laptop for about 15 minutes at a time, for the simple reason that the fan doesn't work properly and the computer overheats rather quickly.
Now, I know you are asking, well hell you have a desktop, you aren't completely out of business, you cna still blog, and write, and do all the things you need to do, I can almost hear the thoughts, but that too is something of a problem. Somehow the desktop too decided to bite the dust, and yes it does have a lot of important information on it that I need.
I now find myself with two computers with a cumulative amount of data of somewhere in the 300Gb range, and no way to safely recover it, until I get a new backup disk, I'm working on that.
What does that all mean, it means that I probably won't be blogging for a while after tis one, I'll have to work to get my laptop and desktop fixed and working properly. So wish me luck, send donations, whatever works, prayers, bead rattling, white light sending, whatever you use for luck and help.
Thanks,

P.S. If all of that doesn't work, I'll be lighting some sage and officiating a long distance exorcism of your computers.

I DO have a desktop. But it isn't where I live. And it's in old linux. I think it's XP or 2000 compatible, not sure which. And all the data on it is like... from before last October, when I stopped using it entirely.
Luckily all my pictures are backed up via photobucket, and I can still access the hard drive, so I've got all my stuff, just need to get it off that computer.
That really, really sucks. I hope you can replace one of them soon and/or get them working again. Good luck.
