You and the Alien
Imagine...
you live in your little wooden cabin which lies by day under a majestic blue sky and by night under a blanket of twinkling stars. On this particular evening you are swinging gently on your hammock, cold drink in hand and the soft jazzy tones of a plethora of insects going about their business around you, lulling you into a sleepy daze.
Suddenly from above a bright light appears and an alien craft plonks itself down on your front lawn. You raise your head, jaw scraping on the floor as you look from your drink to the ship and back to your drink again wondering what on earth is going on.
Before you can stand up a small green creature hovers from the craft over to where you are sitting, still speechless. You find that you can communicate and soon you have got over the shock of the experience and are being asked,
'Show me the most important thing to your race. Explain it to me - what the essence of a human is.' The little guy can understand the words you use but he has no comprehension of the actual meaning of the words. W

"... Oh WOW!!! Hey, pour yourself one and come and sit, we have much to talk about. Then will you take me for a ride on that there ship of yours?" ...
Providing that is, he has in interstellar translator... I would hope his first words are not a repeated : "Take me to your remote control..."*chuckle*
Actually Ash, it's a timely thought... you'll never guess in a million light years, but one of my favourite musicians is coming to our 'local scene,' during the upcoming mooosic fes-ti-vuuuul - (when said properly it sounds like an ancient cry against boredom, doesn't it?) ...
...anyeeeeway, Shawn Mullins, no less, on 21st October. I will be up then to Kings Park - Boy, wouldn't miss it for the world.
Wooo Hoooo!!!
Lilla ...
But that would depend I guess, but I think for most people relationships would be pretty high on the list (after cars and plasma TVs of course). In which case, maybe I'd just give the little green fella a great big hug to understand the meaning of the words - so long as he wasn't too sticky!

I would reach out with my arms and my heart, and show, not tell, the love that lives there. A love so strong that it seems to dissolve my body, a love that is the absolute most for each one that has it, no matter how many I love. Show it as an essence, a power, instead of a wordy emotion.
Then, when hes trippin on that sweetness, I say, "now, you know the great importance of being human what we live for. Now I'll show you WHY its so important"
And, using my aura as a living force, turn my insides so slightly THUS and show him.....Anger, frustration and agression, depression, anxiety and fear.......Hatred. The depth of my ugliness.
Then tell him - " The most important thing to our race is that love. It is what we live for, and strive for, and believe it is all life should be. Having felt it Im sure you agree. However, some of our race choose the ugly emotions over the nice ones, for so many reasons, and many of our race are caused great pain by this. The majority of us believe we should have love and nothing else.
But how much more did you appreciate the love once you had felt the pain? Suddenly love was something to be protected, something far more fragile and prescious. I tell you that this is the essence of being human - a state of merciless conflict. No matter how we try to escape always we are forced back into the balance.
And a triumph over this conflict is the greatest feeling of all. Managing the love and pain on even the smallest scale is our goal.
Can you take me for a ride buddy? Always wanted to see Orions belt up close"

wow what a great response you have given! That is truly awesome - I hope when they decide to land that they find people like yourself to show them what us humans are made of!
Indeed you have to experience both ends of the scale to truly appreciate love - if you haven`t experienced hate then you cannot have experienced true love.
Conflict and finding that balance if something I think we all strive to find in our own lives too!
Great response K.
