It is a futuristic dystopia. There is no life except for human life, the planet is dead. There is no sun. We block it all. We require the use of 100% of the sunlight to power our civilization. It's a drab colourless world. Totally. The buildings are all square and shit with all the exact same greyish coloured walls. Everything is in straight uncomplicated square shapes. people mill about in colourless body suits which take care of all their bodily functions. Including moving their muscles, running their digestive system, all that shit. The energy powering this suit also takes into account your energy intake from food, and this is how it is decided how much of the work is being done by your biological body and howmuch by the suit, it's all one big system. Most people don't eat food, it is considered a novelty to eat a meal, many do it for "cultural" reasons (much like the way a tourist in india might have taken a yoga lesson in the 02000's).
The people, however, inhabit an exciting, bubbling and alive world. The walls are ablaze with neon colours, everything is tagged and labbeled, they are living in an augmented reality, but it is the internet. But everybody inhabits a slightly different world. There is no reality as to what is going on in the "real world". There is no real world. Politics, culture, news, jobs, the state of the world. It's different in all of them, people are not sure what the level of sharedness is at exactly, but one can assume that one will share 50% worldfeatures with 50% of the people one meets (however, this is widely believed to be skewed by the growing five sects/cultus whose members all inhabit absolutely identical worlds, they each claim to different extents to be a collective consciousness, the next stage in evolution, a spiritually transcendent being) For the rest of the population.
The place is a political battleground. But the political battle is a battle not of force, not for votes, or any of that, the political battle is as to what world people inhabit. Most people inhabit a pop culture world, full of advertising and cheap entertainment. To the contemporary eye, this world is devoid of advertising. On closer inspection it is devoid of culture. Sporting events, movies that play out in the environment around you, all of the things we might recognise today as popular culture, are all geared towards selling particular products.
Political campaigners are constantly trying to get the support of the people occupying this world, but they are totally inneffectual at getting the attention of these people, some of whom scoff at the remark that they are being duped, enslaved. It is considered a mark of insanity to use the term "pop world"
The democracy. Is the last entity calling itself a country. But it consists of people living disparately around the globe. They are involved in political decisions, and are running the world. In fact, every world decision, that is defined as taking actions which affect anything which can be demonstrated to have mass, is decided by instant votes in which every human is elegible to vote. Although the ammount who do ever vote is miniscule. The people who regularly vote call themselves the democracy. This includes the people who have stakes in the conosumerist world which dominates the imagination of the masses. They obviously don't inhabit that world themselves, the one that is commonly refered to by democratarians as "the ship of fools". Although many people who the contemporary viewer might refer to as humanists, consider this to be a heartless derogatory statement made by elitists who don't care to alleviate the suffering of their bretheren in the hypnotic slavery to these aristocratic corporate bastards. They prefer to use the term "pop world", although technically the correct term is "XTine" with 84% approval (this is the result of another vote which has a large participation rate, and is fuelling the claims of political dissidents who claim the corporates are misleading their clients to vote unwittingly) However, the humanists have been increasingly embittered by the joint march of irony and time, as they are derided, ridiculed and humiliated by those in the pop world.
The Livists are a political faction in Democracy, who propose extending the capture of light which is not incident on the earth (which already consists of 12% of all light captured), so as to allow light to return to the earth, they advocate doing this in order to restore biological life. This is widely considered lunacy, since it is an utterly inneficient waste of that sunlight energy, and increases the amount of work which must be done by the human community in order to maintain Life-Increase (which is defined as the multiple by which life expectancy rate is increasing over the "crossover rate" of 1 year per year.)
If I were to make a movie, That is the world in which the story would take place. It is left as an exercise to the reader to set up a wiki on which to write the script. This can be the first article in it.
