World Where You Live - by Julie Keast

The Benefits of Being Single

Although I am in a steady relationship with a guy who I absolutely adore, I sometimes miss the benefits of being a single girl while it's great to have someone who I can cuddle, kiss and spoon with, there is just something about being single which spells freedom to me.

I will now list why sometimes I feel it's better to be single:

Being able to chat to guys/ girls without worrying that your boyfriend or girlfriend is going to be jealous
Perving on that hot hunk/girl on the beach without the guilt
Being able to go out with friends with worrying that your boyfriend or girlfriend is going to ring you

That warm, fuzzy feeling you get when your crush actually smiles at you
You don't have to put up with pressure from his/ her friends to have sex with boyfriend or girlfriend (That is something I hate, it's another form of bullying in my opinion)
You don't have the constant worrying about whether he/she trusts you.
More time to spend with other friends and your family.

I am sure I could go and on about the relative benefits of being single and boy, sometimes I wish I could go back to my school days where I wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend because it'd affect my school work (according to my parents) because somehow being a young teenager seemed a lot more fun then being an adult with a boyfriend.

Gimme some of that FREEDOM! LOL!

Avril's new album probaby The Worst Damn Album I have listened to this year

I spent a lot of last night listening to albums that I have bought and haven't had the chance to listen to or haven't listened to in a while and I have to admit there was one album that really disappointed me in all of the albuma I listened to. I listened to Time On Earth by Crowded House, My December by Kelly Clarkson, The Best Damn Thing by Avril Lavigne, Dream Days at the Hotel Existence by Powderfinger and Won't Be Soon Before Long by Maroon 5.

The new Crowded House album was what I expected it to be, quite dark and strangely beautiful. The track Even A Child is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head, it is extremely catchy. Neil Finn's voice continues to amaze me. I have no doubt that Time On Earth will debut at No 1 on the ARIA charts next week

Powderfinger's new album is a definite contender for Album of the Year at the ARIA Awards later this year. I can't name a memorable song from it because they are all memorable in some way, Dream Days goes a long way to ensuring Powderfinger are remembered as one of the best bands to ever come out of Australia.

Maroon 5's second album is definitely a little better then their first, the second album sprouts a brand new direction from Adam Levine and the band. Won't Be Soon Before Long sees the band take on an eighties electronic rock sound that is very different to the first album, Songs About Jane (which to be honest I thought was a little boring in some ways). It's probably not going to make it to any top 10 album of the year list but there are definitely songs that will stick in your head.

My December is Kelly Clarkson's third album and really could equal as a bit of a disappointment because it is really more of the same as Clarkson's second album Breakaway. The first single Never Again desperately tries to be the third album's Since You've Been Gone but unfortunately it hasn't quite worked. Ultimately I believe there are only one or two songs that really had my hair standing on end

Now out of all the albums I listened to last night, it was Avril Lavigne's latest album which really disappointed me. All the songs seemed to run together and it really seemed that instead of going forward, Avril is going somewhat backward, a lot of the songs are childish, I needed a panadol. The best song on the album would easily have to be the second single When You're Gone with Runaway a distant second. I knbw Avril wanted her third album to be fun but let me tell you, I did not have fun listening to this album at all.

So what albums have you listened so far this year that you have either enjoyed or thought was a bit of a rank disappointment and not what you were expecting it to be.

The Beatles

I am not going to go into one of those "when I was a child" rants but yesterday I found something that I didn't realize I still had, you see my parents bought me these two albums The Beatles Red Album and The Beatles 1962 -1966 and the Beatles Blue Album 1967 -1970 as a young girl of about eight or nine years old who knew the words to songs like "Eight Days A Week", "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "Hello Goodbye" off by heart (thanks largely to a tape called "Beatles Hits for Kids"). I would walk around the streets of Broadbeach on the Gold Coast while on holiday singing "Eight days a week, I loooovveee you!" and annoy the hell out of my sister and parents because I wouldn't shut up (they managed to though with ice cream) and stop singing high pitched (my singing voice is high pitched and not that good).
Anyway I cleaned the dust off both CD sets and decided to write down my favourite Beatles tunes from these two albums, I thought I might share them with you (You might find there are a few classic songs missing from my list of favourites):

My Favourite Beatles Songs
"I Wanna Hold Your Hand"
"Hard Days Night"
"Eight Days A Week"
"Ticket To Ride"
"Help"
"We Can Work It Out"
"Day Tripper"
"In My Life"
"Girl"
"Twist and Shout"
"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"
"Hello Goodbye"
"Revolution"
"Come Together"
"Something"

Yes, I know all you Beatles fans out there are gasping in horror that I have left songs like "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be" off the list but the songs I have listed are probably the Beatles I have fun singing along to when I put a Beatles CD on and ones I remember.

Anyway that's all for now so tata cyaz

Time to Leave Britney alone

The biggest news (almost) over the weekend was Britney Spears deciding to go to a hair salon, shaving all her hair off and getting a new tattoo. Bizarrely enough, when Britney demanded that the hair stylist shave her hair off and the stylist refused telling Britney "you should really sleep on this", Britney grabbed the clippers and shaved all her hair off herself! I think it's pretty clear that Britney is on the verge of a meltdown and being a single mum of two young boys can't be that easy especially when it's clear Britney has no idea how to look after her boys (But does any new parent?). This incident follows previous bizarre incidences of going out with Paris Hilton not wearing any underwear, passing out at a nightclub on New Years Eve drunk and now to top it all off she goes and does this, it is quite disturbing and someone (either her mum or record company) sat Britney down and told her to clean herself up because she is at real risk of losing custody of her two small children, Sean Preston and Jayden James to her ex husband, Kevin Federline (who is starting to look good thanks to Britney's recent behaviour0 because her mother,Lynne is taking care of the two boys at the moment.

I also think it's time the tabloid media left her alone. Just last week, we were hearing from a former nanny and housekeeper of Britney's about Britney's parenting skills. It seems to me, that people are after the money that comes from interviews with trashy magazines instead of making life a little easier on Britney (I bet if the former nanny hadn't spoken out, she probably wouldn't have shaved her hair off). As someone who is a former fan of Britney's, this latest incident is just another in a worrying long line of incidents which leaves me wondering: WHAT THE HELL IS NEXT?

A real Newcastle theme today

Being a proud girl from Newcastle and being someone who loves sport, I couldn't help but be very proud of the boys from the Newcastle United Jets in the A League, to come from last on the A League ladder after 7 rounds of the competition to now facing Adelaide United in a PRELIMINARY FINAL to decide who will meet Melbourne Victory at the Telstra Dome on February 18 (thats two days after my birthday by the way), that is a fantastic effort and really says something about the coach, Gary Van Egmond and the Jets players. Good luck in the preliminary final down in Adelaide...I think they'll need it, Adelaide are a very good side.

Speaking of all things Newcastle, have you heard the new Silverchair single Straight Lines? It's quite different to what I expected Silverchair's return single to be, I quite liked it personally but I also liked Silverchair when they were rocking it with songs like Tomorrow and Freak I think Daniel Johns might have been inspired after all that time he spent in the Disassociatives.

What Australian song reminds you of Australia?

I was thinking about what song reminds me the most of Australia and what it means for me to live in this country and the song I instantly thought of was this one:

"Your're the Voice" - John Farnham

Boycott Big Day Out

The Big Day Out organisers are currently the kings of political correctness and sheer stupidity after they decided to ban the Australian flag from the BDO concert which is due to be held on the eve of Australia Day on Thursday in Sydney, just because some idiots decided to use the flag as their symbol of gang warfare last year and caused trouble for security last year. It seems to be happening more and more often in this country, organisers of fun events such as the Big Day Out makes rules for the majority because of the minority of idiots who get to these events and be stupid, well here's a novel suggestion to the orgaqnisers, if these idiots want to get there and cause trouble then why not allow security to throw these people out instead of taking the fun out of an event such as the BDO. The ban on the Aussie flag shows how much this country is now bordering on the ridiculous of always wanting to side with minority instead of the majority. The Australian flag should be allowed at the BDO and nothing like a flag ban should be ever thought of again (I don't agree with Andrew Robb that the BDO be cancelled just because of a flag ban).

Oh hang on...I have an idea, if organisers don't remove the Aussie flag ban, people who are wanting to go should boycott it! If people don't go it will send a message to the organisers of this event that people are not going to be told that they can't have the Aussie flag at the BDO.

I Hate Racism

If there is anything I hate more then anything else, it is racism so a story out of Britain involving three Celebrity Big Brother contestants who the British people have complained are being racist against another housemate, Indian Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty. Jo O'Meara (a former member of pop band, S Club &, Danielle Lloyd (a former Miss Britain) and Jade Goody ( a former reality TV star) really upset me.
Various incidents include: All three calling Shilpa "a dog", Lloyd refusing to touch a roast chicken made by Shilpa because Shilpa's hands had been on it (this remark left Shilpa in tears) O' Meara commenting that the reason Indian girls are so thin is because they undercook their food, O' Meara and Lloyd even went to the lengths of imitating Shetty's accent and laughing about it. There are even claims, one of the housemates called her a "Paki"
The organisers of Celebrity Big Brother have said that they will look into and take the appropriate action against O' Meara, Goody and Lloyd and crack down on racism on the show.

Song writing

In my spare time I like to do a bit of song writing as well...I recently posted a song I wrote on a couple of other websites and it got rave reviews. it's called "Waiting", it has no music with it because I am tone deaf and couldn't play an instrument if I tried so I guess I just call myself lyricist (I think that's the word for it?) So I thought I would post it to see what you guys think of it
