World Where You Live - January 2007

Do you believe in Global Warming (climate change?

Thank you to those who posted their back to school stories in the last blog entry, I really appreciate them

Anyway I want to write about global warming because there is a new report into climate change which is particularly alarming, people are saying that tempratures around Australia will increase by 5 degrees, water will evaporate quicker and there is more of a chance of drought along with the other side effects of climate change.

I have got to say that I have noticed a few little things which signal to me that climate change is a very real problem..eg: extreme temprature ranges from one day to the next is something that I have noticed...but anyway I want to know whether you believe global warming is real or not and give a few reasons why and if you do believe global warming is happening then what should be done about it? Are our politicians doing enough about this issue?

What are your memories of starting school?

Part of the reason I am writing about this is because all the children around Australia go back to school this week and partly because I had a conversation with a child who is starting school this year while I was baby sitting yesterday and it reminded me of when I first started school, I was asking the same questions that she was yesterday when I was her age (four turning five), questions like: "What if my teacher is mean?", "What if I don't like school?" etc (I also wondered if her parents have been preparing her properly for the step of going to school) so I told her about my first day where I was frightened, I remember throwing a massive tantrum about not wanting to go to Kindergarten on the first day but I learnt that school is a lot of fun, you learn so much and you make so many new friends plus she gets to wear a special uniform...I actually remember getting in trouble for crunching my chair into the teachers shoe...LOL!

Anyway thats about all I wanted to write about today so have a good rest of the weekend and tata cyaz

What Australian song reminds you of Australia?

I was thinking about what song reminds me the most of Australia and what it means for me to live in this country and the song I instantly thought of was this one:

"Your're the Voice" - John Farnham
We have the chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we wanna write
We gotta make ends meet before we get much older

We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun

Chorus:
You're the voice try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
oh-wo-wo-wo-ho-wo-wo-wo
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
oh-wo-wo-wo-oh-wo-wo-wo

This time we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing we can make it better

We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?

Repeat Chorus:

Ohhh, We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?

Repeat Chorus to fade

To me this song reminds me of being able to say anything you like without being persecuted by government or authority, basically it also reminds me of Democracy and Freedom as well.

So come on all you Aussies out there, on this Australia Day what Australian song reminds you of something special about Australia.

Tata cyaz

P.S I could have put "Don't Dream its over" in there instead but it would look a bit too obvious

Brand New Crowded House album

After a long week of rumours and innuendo, the rumours are true. Crowded House are getting back together for not only a world tour but a brand new album! I have to admit I am really excited...I love nearly every song of Crowded House's..my fave Crowded House song is a toss up between 'Don't Dream its over' and 'Now We're Getting Somewhere'....but there are soo many good Crowded House songs.

Anyway enough on my obsession with Crowded House... The so called Mufti of Australia re entered the country this morning after a what I would call 'spreading hatred of Australia, Australians and their women" holiday in Egypt, thats where he said that Muslims have more right to Australia then any other religion living in Australia and he reinterated he comments about immodestly dressed women...remember? Now this time Lakemba mosque, if you really understand what the majoirty of the Australian community want then sack him. I certainly hope that he doesn't stand for the seat of Lakemba at the State Election in March which hurts me to say that because most members of the Muslim community are wonderful people who work hard and try to do the right thing by Australia but its people like Al Hilaly who give the Muslim community a bad name

Howard denies Rudd threat

Prime Minister, John Howard has denied that his latest cabinet reshuffle is because the government is worried about the threat of the new Labor leader, Kevin Rudd.
Howard finally sacked Immigration minister, Amanda Vanstone who has been dumped to the backbench in favour of the Workplace Relations minister, Kevin Andrews who will now take the Immigration portfolio. Joe Hockey (Human Services) now takes on Workplace Relations while Senator Ian Campbell takes on Human Services with Malcom Turnbull is now Environment minister.
I do wonder if this move of the Prime Minister's to move Malcom Turnbull to the enviroment is one to combat Labor's new Environment and Climate Change shadow minister, Peter Garrett (former frontman of politically motivated band, Midnight Oil) and also sacking Amanda Vanstone from the Cabinet is in reaction to the mess that Immigration has been over the past couple of years but it has been in a mess ever since the current Attorney General, Phillip Ruddock was the Immigration Minister.

Be Straight: The Coalition are in Trouble in Iraq

Another day another mass murder of Iraqi citizens in Iraq. This time more then 100 people were killed when two bombs went off simultaneously in Baghdad which will cause even more concern for US President Bush ahead of his State of the Union speech tomorrow considering that the US had their worst couple of days in Iraq since the war began back in 2003 on the weekend. The new attacks come as the first of 21,000 US troops enter Iraq, some 3,200 troops fly into Baghdad this week ordered by President Bush.

I am not convinced at all that this new plan of President Bush's is going to work, the trouble is that the Coalition is in a dead end street and both options look equally unappetizing, we do what Bush has done and increase the troop numbers and yet there is even more trouble however if we withdraw, we are opening the way for terrorists to use Iraq as a base to launch their attacks especially in Israel (whom I believe had a very big say in what the US did with Iraq) and Somalia

Boycott Big Day Out

The Big Day Out organisers are currently the kings of political correctness and sheer stupidity after they decided to ban the Australian flag from the BDO concert which is due to be held on the eve of Australia Day on Thursday in Sydney, just because some idiots decided to use the flag as their symbol of gang warfare last year and caused trouble for security last year. It seems to be happening more and more often in this country, organisers of fun events such as the Big Day Out makes rules for the majority because of the minority of idiots who get to these events and be stupid, well here's a novel suggestion to the orgaqnisers, if these idiots want to get there and cause trouble then why not allow security to throw these people out instead of taking the fun out of an event such as the BDO. The ban on the Aussie flag shows how much this country is now bordering on the ridiculous of always wanting to side with minority instead of the majority. The Australian flag should be allowed at the BDO and nothing like a flag ban should be ever thought of again (I don't agree with Andrew Robb that the BDO be cancelled just because of a flag ban).

Oh hang on...I have an idea, if organisers don't remove the Aussie flag ban, people who are wanting to go should boycott it! If people don't go it will send a message to the organisers of this event that people are not going to be told that they can't have the Aussie flag at the BDO.

Crowded House to reunite

I am not going to bother mentioning that idiot at Lakemba mosque today because it is Sunday and I don't want to spend my Sunday angry.

I have some big news for Crowded House fans and it comes from the Sunday Telegraph! Neil Finn hasw announced that auditions are being held to find a new drummer for a Crowded House world tour. Here is the story from the Sunday Telegraph:

Political Pointscoring

Australia claims to be a free country that has free speech and people are able to say what they want when they want but I listened to an English commentator who was here for the Ashes cricket series, he said that Australia may claim to be a land that promotes free speech and a fair go for all but in reality, Australia's politicians have overregulated everything. I also might add over taxed, over worked and over tired of political point scoring by governments at all levels. (Australia has three tiers of government: Federal, State and Local...it is a really complicated government system) No Federal, State or Local government seems interested in solving the many issues within Australia and that includes water, drought, health, climate change and education just purely the fact that there is an election coming up in March in New South Wales and a Federal election sometime in October/November and it seems like both State major parties are making empty promises to attract gullible voters who think it'll all be wonderful if that particulat party gets in.
So when the Federal election comes up, I encourage all you Aussies to think about who you vote for before you vote for the person who has made the most promises which sound good but will never happen

I Hate Racism

If there is anything I hate more then anything else, it is racism so a story out of Britain involving three Celebrity Big Brother contestants who the British people have complained are being racist against another housemate, Indian Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty. Jo O'Meara (a former member of pop band, S Club &, Danielle Lloyd (a former Miss Britain) and Jade Goody ( a former reality TV star) really upset me.
Various incidents include: All three calling Shilpa "a dog", Lloyd refusing to touch a roast chicken made by Shilpa because Shilpa's hands had been on it (this remark left Shilpa in tears) O' Meara commenting that the reason Indian girls are so thin is because they undercook their food, O' Meara and Lloyd even went to the lengths of imitating Shetty's accent and laughing about it. There are even claims, one of the housemates called her a "Paki"
The organisers of Celebrity Big Brother have said that they will look into and take the appropriate action against O' Meara, Goody and Lloyd and crack down on racism on the show.

Song writing

In my spare time I like to do a bit of song writing as well...I recently posted a song I wrote on a couple of other websites and it got rave reviews. it's called "Waiting", it has no music with it because I am tone deaf and couldn't play an instrument if I tried so I guess I just call myself lyricist (I think that's the word for it?) So I thought I would post it to see what you guys think of it
