Working for the Man

As I had completed an apprenticeship in the motor body building industry I assured my new bride, I can go to work and be a good provider. It did not come easy. Most factories I worked in often went broke. Subsequence I have lost count of the times I have been victim to redundancies.
I picked up employment in this factory that made log burners. The pay was good but fire season came to a premature end. Because of my Christian beliefs, the owner spoke with me first. He gave me two weeks notice.
I went out on to the shop floor and my work mates surrounded me wanting to know what was going on. With a big smile on my face I told then we were all going to become redundant. They laughed thinking it was a joke. The one who laughed the loudest and most mockingly at me I told him, he was next.
When my colleague came out of the bosses’ office, he was not laughing. I guess he did not know about the joy of the Lord. Fortunately for me my wife Hine did. They say that when one door shuts another one opens. This is true went dealing with the Lord for it was not long before I had another job. Things in our house began to settle down and our family began to meld.
The street in which we lived was full of welfare beneficiaries of differing types. Their children roamed all over the place as our own did. The main difference being ours were home at a certain time. The other children went home when they felt like it. This greatly concerned us as a couple and we began to ask the Lord for a strategy. This is how the ‘Clover Kids’ youth group began.
