Do we run our lives on a mobile phone?
August 16th 2007 08:54
Mobile phones have become a big part of everyday living, without them we would be lost. Or would we?
Have we taken this advanced piece of technology and used it to replace our minds. They do have advantages and some times to great detriment of our own voices and the art of communication. Do not get me wrong I have fallen foul of this matter.
Relationships have been born and last over the mobile phone, texting being the biggest culprit, you start from the word hello and before you know it you are having full blown sex text. Texting allows you to say things and act with out the embarrassment of seeing the person face to face. You can be really cheeky etc. and get away with it.
But it also has major flaws, your messages are stored, and theirs no getting round it once it has been sent it, there is No going back. You run the risk of what you are trying to say being misinterpreted
A new revelation is that people manage to have full blown arguments by text alone, as well as make up. But unlike a real argument where you may not be able remember everything of what you said it has been stored and can be used at a later date. Due to the capabilities of this modern invention, there’d be no way of denying what has been said. .
What is wrong with meeting up and talking face to face, discussing what the problems are and how they can be sorted? Giving you the opportunity to say what you want to and clear up any misinterpretation.
Some how human nature and moved into this techno bubble that allows us to say what we want with out the fear of being made accountable. Can use the phrase, ‘My mate sent it for a laugh’ or ‘I meant to send it to some one else.’ Does this now become an acceptable excuse? I think not. It is a safe guard and easy option do get out of something with limited damage to our self esteem and awkward situation, because you can just turn of you phone , put it on the side and ignore it.
Mobile phones are clearly an every day item, just as the wallet, keys and ID. Never leave home with out it. Why not try just leaving your phone at home for a day. Your day suddenly becomes peaceful and relaxed. If it is important some one will leave a message, in your own time and when you are ready, get back to them.
That was how life used to be, instead of texting a friend, you would have phoned them or popped round to there house, we used to communicate a lot more, chatted face to face and were more open, especially when in a relationship. Now it is just type and send.
Our lives revolve around out mobile phone, when theoretically should not. Where does this all end? Marriage by text, job offers and interviews by text.
Do not know about you but due to my experiences, I have decided to speak face to face and go back to the art of communication.
Mobile phones have there uses and advantages, we make choices and life decisions in relation to them. People lives have been lost because of them. Is a mobile phone more important than a life? Makes you think really.
