EAT, PRAY, LOVE

April 22nd 2011 17:09
Julia Roberts was awesome in this film. I stayed away from the book because it sounded too sappy. I am not into romance genres. And the movie could have gone this way, but Roberts keeps a sense of herself about the movie and conveys that she is her own woman.

Of course her elastic features lend credibility to most of what she does, but I really believed her in this movie and the scenery was incredible. Julia Roberts is definitely rising in my list of strong female leads.

Anyone feel the movie was a bust?

Social Network

I just saw this movie when it came out on DVD and in spite of the hype surrounding it, I found it fascinating and well done. My real driver in movies is usually strong women leads or supporting actresses and this had neither, but the subject matter was timely. I am, in fact, a FB user and find the way it has become the leading form of social communication to be astounding. It only started seven years ago and already is more popular than Google.

So does this type of movie really qualify as a "real movie"? It is well acted, holds your interest, and is true. If the lead actor is true to character, the founder of FB leave a lot to be desired in the social comportment department. A bit ironic that a movie about social networking features a founder who was anything but socially adept. But he knew what would work and it does. So what if he is a bit of a jerk. It appears those he wronged were compensated and perhaps that is all that is required.

In any case, this was well worth watching.

I am still on the lookout for good female performances...it just was not found here.

The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo

I have read all the books, and seen the Swedish versions of the movie. I think the casting is great! But what of the rumors that a US version is underway?? Anyone know anything about this? I am trying to think who should be the lead - I am thinking Angelina Jolie or Bridget Fonda..

Angelina is a real ball buster kick ass type who could convey the anger and uniqueness of Salander but Bridget Fonda in Single While Female was impressive.

Any ideas out there or info?

What About Liz Taylor?

This screen great's passing marks the end of an era. At 79 she had not been cast in a movie in years, but she was a lady of grace, elegance, and known for the use of her name in the fight against AIDs and other causes. But she is certainly not the last woman in Hollywood to have such attritubutes: some of my current favorites: Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Sigourney Weaver,Susan Sarandon,Jodie Foster.
