Yes it's true, Wedding Lanterns are a wedding photographer's dream. They never fail to create the most beautiful images, and the more imperfect and blurred-around-the-edges, the better. It's something about their magical quality that seem s to work so well when freezed on to an image. They also create gorgeous lighting effects and dazzling patterns on the sky which photographers can have a field day with.
It's not only the lanterns themselves that are a constant fascination for the photographer, it's the faces of the people watching them. There's nothing like a surprised and un-rehearsed facial expression when it comes to creating a stunning photograph- far better than the static posed ones I think you'll agree. A freeze shot of a face in its utterly natural state is a thing of great beauty.

Wedding Lanterns make a fantastic addition to any wedding or wedding-esque celebration, but there's by no means only one rule when it comes to how you want your lanterns to feature on your special day. According to your pwn personal preferences, they can be the show stopping culmination of your reception, the star attraction after the official ceremony, or they could have an altogether subtler role.
Here are a few ideas on how to insert wedding lanterns into you special day:
- Firstly, you could opt for a mass lantern launch session. Much like a firework display- but without the bang- you could order a host of lanterns (around 100) from wishlantern.co.uk, and hire their professional team to do a Lantern display for your guests to sit back and enjoy. This is definitely guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser...
-Another option is to get your guests to play a hand in proceedings, and launch the lanterns themselves. I would recommend two people to a lantern, so if you have fifty guests, then twenty five lanterns should be ample. You could also get guests to write their wishes (very carefully) onto the body of the lantern. Things like "congratulations on becoming Mrs Bloggs", or "I wish you all the best for the rest of your lives together" ahhh.
- Another option is to simply order one lone Lantern, and launch it as a couple- the first joint act as a married couple. This would be a symbol ic gesture much like the initial cutting of the cake, and could happen after the wedding service outside the church, or at the wedding reception...whatever you prefer.
Yes, it's true. Ultimately wedding lanterns and wish lanterns are the same thing. Both are rice paper orbs that float delicately up into the sky once lit and inflated. But, and here's the rub, if you were to get a wish lantern along to your wedding ceremony, then no longer would the lantern be referred to as a wish lantern. It would be officially entitled, wedding lantern. Do you see? Moreover, if you really want to wedding up your wish lantern, you can also buy wedding packages which add some key wedding accessories along with your lanterns. You can get pens and cards, inserts, and lighters, all to make the job of launching your lantern that bit easier more wedding-like. Marvellous.
To my joy and delight, beautiful white Chinese Lanterns (or Wish Lanterns) made a very significant appearance on television the other night. I was flicking through a few channels last Monday- a very dismal selection on offer as usual- when I came accross a program starring Sue Perkins and Giles Coren called, The Supersizers Eat.. Youve probably seen it. Its in one of those prime-time spots competing with the likes of Wife Swap and Ashes to Ashes. Anyway, the premise is that two comedians eat their way through different periods in history to see what effect it has on their bodies, mind, and

bowels. Its Masterchef meets Simon Sharma, meets Embarrassing Bodies.
This week, the two quippers were living the life of Marie Antoinette and King Louis during the tumultuous era of the French Revolution. Whilst munching through about 20,000 calories a day, squeezing into corsets, and playing billiards, they also managed to light and launch some Wish lanterns as a way of marking the end of the Ancien Regime and the days of feasting and extravagance that went along with it(for the Aristocrats that is). They each released a chinese lantern into the night sky kitted out in their finery, and the effect was magical. While watching the lanterns float away, Sue proclaimed a spontaneous Oh thats so nice! as the shot faded out
