David Haye scored a big knockout win over Jean-Marc Mormeck of France a couple of hours ago. This is a great victory for Haye despite struggling against Mormeck and was knocked down himself in the 4th round.

More details of the fight will be posted later. Stay Tuned.

Great Weekend for Boxing Yet Again

November 9th 2007 23:07
I am really happy to see boxing fans have been treated with great matchups this year and most of them were excellent and exciting to watch. Now another great fight on a Saturday night between Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto will surely draw the attention from boxing fans around the world. This is a fight between 2 top ranked boxers. Cotto will be defending his WBA Welterweight Championship belt against the ever dangerous Mosley. Despite Mosley's age of 36, you just can't count him out since he still fights like he is 10 years younger. He brings skill, speed and power that will surely trouble the Puerto Rican champ. Cotto is a young lion who is on a roll today. He beat Zab Judah in a very exciting fight that raised his status to championship material. He was stunned many times in the fight because of Judah's excellent counter straights and uppercuts but his heart and courage prevailed as he pressured Judah with vicious body punches until he nailed him with a stinging uppercut and straight right to end the fight. Cotto uses pressure to to pound on his opponents coupled with his hard punches and his famous body shots. I am leaning towards a Shane Mosley win but with Cotto on the other side of the ring, you never know.

I am also pumped to see the another great Cruiserweight or 200 lb action is also due this weekend between WBC/WBA Cruiserweight Champion Jean-Marc Mormeck and David "Haymaker" Haye. The problem is, only the hardcore boxing fans will watch this fight since it will be held in France and HBO nor Showtime won't be showing it in the USA or in any part of the world. It's a good thing the internet is available for boxing fans. Mormeck is a talented 200 lber with his excellent skill inside the ring and heavy hands. He is currently on top of the Cruiserweights after beating O'neil Bell last March in fierce battle. Like Mosley, he is also 36 years old facing a young challenger in David Haye. Haye is known for knocking out 18 opponents in his 19 wins (1 loss) and is capable of stopping the fight in the early rounds. He does have an average chin and will be likely wobbled if Mormeck lands a punch on it.

I predict both super fights will put the crowd on its feet and will probably end in a KO.

Also in the undercard action of the Cotto-Mosley fight, Cuban WBC champion Joel Casamayor will fight Jose Armando Sta. Cruz Mexico for his title and former WBO Welterweight champ Antonio Margarito will be slugging it out against tough contender Golden Johnson in his return bout after losing his WBO belt to Paul Williams.

Shane Mosley
Shane Mosley is another example of a boxer who is supposedly at the tail end of his career because of his age but he seems to defy it. At the age of 36, Mosley still looks really fast, like Zab Judah fast and the power in his punches still devastating. From the opinions I've read around the web concerning his fight with Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, most boxing fans are picking the Puerto Rican to go through Mosley because he is younger and just as strong. In my opinion, Mosley still has a good chance of winning by KO or by unanimous decision in this fight. I don't think Cotto's chin can handle Mosley's power if he gets tagged repeatedly like in the Zab Judah fight. Mosley also has expience on his side because he fought highly ranked fighters such as Vernon Forres (Lost 2x), Winky Wright (Lost 2x), Oscar De La Hoya, Jesse James Leija, and Fernando Vargas.

I saw some of Mosley's training videos and Whoah!! He is one scary 36 year old. He was punishing his younger sparring partners with his lethal punches and making them miss with his unbelievable speed. Before I watched that footage, I thought that Mosley would look slower but he proved me wrong. It was like watching Floyd Mayweather Jr. train but with more pop in his punches. He moves around the ring like with his great footwork, utilizes his speed to counter, slip punches and deliver fast combinations with great power. It was also a sight to see when he was hitting the pads. His hand speed was so fast, it was like seeing a blur when he unloads on the mitts

The Featherweights

November 7th 2007 21:53
Now on the 7th part of the Boxing Weight Divisions, The 126 lbs or Featherweight class right now is on the rise. It kind of stagnated when Barrera, Pacquiao, and Marquez left for the Super Featherweights but right now a new breed of younger boxers are dominating this division. I hope boxing fans will take notice of this weight division once again since it is filled with excellent and talented boxers. Here are the young champions of the Featherweights Division:

1. Jorge Linares, Venezuela - WBC Champion

Sakio Bika Wins Contender Season 3!!

November 7th 2007 04:35
Sakio Bika won the third season of Contender by stopping Jaidon Codrington in the eighth round. The fight was entertaining, both fighters throwing powerful punches towards each other. Bika was able to score a knockdown in the 1st round but Jaidon was also able to drop him moments later. The ensuing rounds were an all out war with both fighters rocking each other. It was apparent Codrington was having problems dealing with Bika's pace and power punches. The end came in round 8 when Bika drove his opponent to the ropes and proceeded to pound him causing the referee to stop the match.

Congratulations to Sakio Bika for winning the whole thing and taking home $750,000.

What's Next For Joe Calzaghe?

November 7th 2007 03:07
Joe Calzaghe
Joe Calzaghe showed the world why he is the best Super Middleweight fighter after an exciting match against the young former champon Mikkel Kessler. Many doubters thought that his age will be a factor during the match, predicting that Kessler will be too much for him. Kessler was indeed his toughest challenge yet but it was Calzaghe who was too much for his foe. He outboxed and outspeeded him for 12 rounds en route to convincing unanimous decision victory and claimed the WBC and WBA championship titles of Kessler. With that great display of speed, skill and touhgness, I don't think anyone will come close to stopping him anytime soon.

There are still many potential opponents for Calzaghe at this point of his career. Right now, he is seeking for a fight against the aged but formidable Bernard Hopkins. There are already talks in this fight since Joe has mentioned that he will move up to the Light Heavyweight division after his fight with Kessler. This would be an interesting fight if it ever materializes. Hopkins fights dirty and will always go for a clinch just to win. He is prone to head clashed because of the way he leads his head when coming in close toward his opponent. I really think that Calzaghe's speed will be a hugr factor against B-hop. He just moves quick and fires rapid fire combinations that always puzzle his opponents and I think Hopkins would have difficulty fighting at Calzaghe's pace. This a a big money fight for both fghters but I hope Calzaghe will get to challenge the younger champions like Chad Dawson or even Zsolt Erdei

Joe Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler Recap

November 6th 2007 21:05
Calzaghe landing a straight left
One of the most anticipated fights this year in boxing proved an exciting toe-to-toe match. The now Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion Joe Calzaghe displayed his skill to outbox and beat the Dane Mikkel Kessler, who gave him the hardest fight in his career. The fight did not dissapoint ans it was action packed from start to finish. Lots of back and forth exchanges entertained the fans thanks to great display of toughness and courage by both fighters with Calaghe getting the better of them most of the time.

Round 1 started like a usual fight, both boxers were feeling each other out. Kessler was pumping his jab and Calzaghe was also jabbing and aiming for Kessler's body. The champion from Denmark came in hungry in this fight as he was using his jab very well then throwing his hard straight right afterward. They had some heated exchanges in the first round, neither having an edge yet but Calzaghe threw more punches and connected more. Kessler landed the harder punches in the first but it was pretty even at that point. The second round started with both fighters unleashing meaningful punches. Kessler was able to back Calzaghe to the ropes after landing a huge right. Calzaghe moved away from the ropes and answered with punches of his own. Kessler has the edge in the 2nd round
