Christian Revolution - by Marti

Why Should We Be Silent?

July 28th 2007 21:51
To Christians that read this:

Can I ask you a question? Why are we so silent?

Why, when we get offended by half nude magazines that are in our children's view at supermarkets, etc, do we not say something to the manager? Is it fear that they will think we are crazy?

When someone is having a bad day, and we have the answers because we KNOW the truth, why do we just sit there? Or just tell them, "I'll pray for you." In my bible, Jesus stopped what he was doing and prayed right then.

Jesus spoke out against what was wrong.

Am I saying to burn down stores that have these magazines? Absolutely not! Am I saying to throw your hands on co-workers and start shouting for Jesus to heal them? Absolutely not. There will be a leading in your spirit on how to handle issues (that will be spiritually and legally sound).

What I am most upset with, is the complacency of the Church/Christians today. GOING TO CHURCH ON SUNDAYS IS NOT GOING TO GET YOU INTO HEAVEN.

I am sorry if that offends you, but it's a biblical truth. Jesus even stated that there would be those who said, "But Lord, didn't I do this in Your name?" And He would tell them to depart, because He never knew them.

How can we know Him? Read your bible! Keep his commandments! Obey His Word! Speak up for Him! GIVE!

If someone can't pay a bill and they are fretting about it, slip them the money! And don't ask to be repaid! And that is, if you ever let them know it was you to begin with!

Serve someone! Take what you read and apply it! Church isn't just a Sunday history lesson! You should be taking the truths that you receive and applying them to your life.

You'll find that as you do these things, you will draw closer to Him than ever before, and what's better, you'll find yourself a vessel He is able to use, which will lead others to Him.

Marti,

I do what I can when I can. It is so hard and makes one so UNPOPULAR which then goes against one's purpose.

But keep on keeping on, I clicked your cross, that should give you a little encouragement.

There's one Christian around here who seems almost as bad as the others, it is quite a burden, I believe Christianity is a life style and gives one some aims and ideals in life quite apart from expectations of Heaven.

All I can suggest is don't be discouraged, but I think you are in the minority, which is always hard to bear.

These are really interesting statements:

GOING TO CHURCH ON SUNDAYS IS NOT GOING TO GET YOU INTO HEAVEN.

I am sorry if that offends you, but it's a biblical truth.

It doesn't offend me. It makes me laugh, though. Amatuer theologians and philosophers always amuse me. They never do their homework. They become experts on spirituality, mysticism and Sacred Scripture without any effort. They just pick up the Bible and interpret it, then tell everyone else about how their interpretation is the only way to go. They must be so damn special. I bet God Almighty Himself looks down upon them with envy.

You support this outlandish statement by loosely quoting Matthew 7: 21-27 without even bothering about jot and tittles:

"But Lord, didn't I do this in Your name?" And He would tell them to depart, because He never knew them.

What Bible are you reading? A stolen Gideons?

The complete quote is:

Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied [blogged?] in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

Try the Douay Rheims version if you want some St Jerome.

To contend that this quote refers to going to Church on Sundays in the modern world is a bit much, even for me. Christ mentions prophesies, casting out devils, and performing miracles, but there is no mention of not attending church on Sundays. Unless Christ Himself was prophesing about modern day US Evangelists and lack of Faith healers like Jimmy Swaggart.

Sorry, but this type of post is just fodder. Have you read your own Bible fully? Have you read any inrepretations of Sacred Scripture by the ancients who have gone before you? (The ones who lived for God alone? Non-Bloggers who devoted their lives to Christ?). Or are you just crying out, 'Lord, Lord,' yourself?

St Francis of Assisi had a great quote: "The only person you should preach to is yourself."

You also mention:

Keep his commandments!

With one of those amazing exclamation marks for emphasis!!!

Have you included keeping the Second Commandment in your Sunday Sermon: Remember to keep holy the Sabbath? And what is your Sabbath? Saturday or Sunday? Tuesday, maybe? And how do you keep your Sabbath holy? By blogging? I do.

And how do you privately interpret these words of Christ's?:

Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. (Matthew 5: 17).

You did say Christians shouldn't be silent.

Oh, btw, I don't go to church on Sundays any more. I'm too busy converting the world through blogging.

"Lord,this is hard, and who can bear it?" "He who has ears to hear"?

"Will you also abandon me?" "Lord, to whom shall we go?"

(Just thought I'd chuck in a couple of other Biblical quotes while I was at it). I could quote Sacred Scripture all day long with the best of the modern-day evangelists, but the reality is, unless it's seasoned with the grace of God, it's tinkling brass.

Signed: A son of the Sons of Thunder (If you really know your Sacred Scripture, you'll know who I'm referring to).

Thanks for your posts, katyzz and you Son of Thunder. It's always a blessing to see those who who care about the Lord leave a post.

I have to say that I apologize if you misunderstood me and I meant that you didn't need to go to Church, that was not what I was saying at all.

You can label me what you will, but in your own words:
I could quote Sacred Scripture all day long with the best of the modern-day evangelists, but the reality is, unless it's seasoned with the grace of God, it's tinkling brass.

I'm not here to impress you or anyone. If you don't care for my blog, then simply don't read it. That is your choice.

Blessings on you Katyzz for your kind words. And blessings on you too, Son of Thunder.

Thanks for leaving comments!

Marti,

Thanks for deleting my plea for financial aid.

That's very Christian of you.

Is that something you picked up from Jesus?

Still holier than though,
Norm

One can always choose different store, can they not? Sho is despaired that his own freedoms of free enterprise must be challenged by those easily offended, those who have the mode to relocate their own purchasing method but stand firmly in their own attitude of crapulence. His thought remains: if the sight before you is unviewable, choose another. There are far more suitable to your tastes. May Sho recommend the ever famous Jesus Books & Gifts, as found in grander central New Jersey? It would be more to your liking, and everyone is happy.

Norm,

Thanks for posting again! I had actually hit the wrong button...

Label me what you will, it doesn't matter to me...

As for your "plea" for financial aid, I have done all I can for this month for those around me. Perhaps you can seek aid from your local church. Helping others isn't limited to just me.

Thanks for reading my postings and blessings on you!

Sho,

The statement about the magazines was made because the magazines are at eye level for children. I have said things to managers to different stores who raise the magazines up, or better yet, put a plastic cover over the fronts so all that is visible is the name of the magazine.

Christian bookstores don't have groceries, Sho. Otherwise, yeah, they would have my business.

Thanks again for reading my post and blessings on you!

Ah, Sho was under false impression that Marti-san wished to do away with such periodicals. One can hold such a stance, but Sho is most delighted that you not feel this way, at least in this showing of ideas. The future path is uncertain, and conflicts do mount the bareback steed, but under this Moon, let us continue to remain the kindest of friends, even if our brethren are sworn enemies. Kajitsu!

Hey Marti,

I like David, will quote St Francis. "At all times, preach the Gospel. If needs be, use words." Unlike David, however, I will quote him twice.

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

That pretty well sums up how I try to live. I do fail alot and fall short of even my own imperfect standard, but I am not yet ready to quit.

As far as attending church goes, my own theory is find a good one and do what you can there to be a blessing to people. I don't think I can say that church is necessary. But it is beneficial.

JZ,

Thank you so much for your comment! You quoted my absolute favorite saying of St. Francis. And I love the Instrument of Peace prayer as well. That has been my father's favorite for years.

And don't be discouraged, believe me, we ALL fall short! The important thing is that you get up and keep moving, making an imprint for Him, which it sounds like you are doing.

Be a light, be a voice!

Blessings!
