why mediocrity

Why Mediocrity? That is the question I am asking and thinking about today. Why are we a society only striving to be average. I recently went to my sons 7th grade awards ceremony. Now I am not saying he should have gotten tons of academic awards and I am proud of the fact he did get an award. But what do you say to kids who are gifted and strive to do their very best and none of them get awards. When one of them win a county science fair award and he gets nothing, but the kids who are not as smart (if they were they would be in gifted) get all the awards. I talked to other parents from middle school students and it was the same at their school. What is our society coming to.
Next our own government is stirving to loose in Iraq. Now I will come right out and say that the only reason we are not winning is the dems. and any one who doesnt think their were wmds are stupid.
When we will we strive to be the best again.
