Why Evony leads the MMORPG ranks

After becoming addicted to Evony in recent weeks (see my recent posts!) haha. I also decided to try some other MMORPG games that were on offer.
Just like Evony, most of these games are web based and mostly free. Some offer the premium service or game experience for a small donation, however most can be played and enjoyed for no cost to the web gamer.
Anyway, I checked out another game that was recommended to me by a friend I met in Evony. He said, if you like the MMORPG scene, try Hobo Wars! My first response was to laugh, but their is genuinely a game called Hobowars. I couldn't believe it.
First impressions were good, this Hobowars had some great images and looked sexy from the front end. But as I got further into the game, I realised there was a strong focus on text based gaming with the odd nice image thrown in.
Imagine a text version of Grand Theft Auto, with the odd sexy visual there to excite you. Hmmm cool for web based stuff but not great.
Anyway, then it dawned on me why Evony is so good and surely having all this success in the MMORPG space. It's genuinely got good gameplay, sexy visuals and you're 'in the game'. By that I mean you don't need to be at arms length and reading text to get a feel for things, you can immediately look see and feel the actual game environment.
Its been a smart setup from developers UMGE and I hope they continue their great foray into the MMORPG and bordline RTS gaming space online.
