Whole Lotta Wind

I'm in New Mexico, waiting to get unloaded. This morning at breakfast in a truck stop, I ran into a friend of mine. He was in Iowa awhile back and got a message on his Qual-Com (thats the computer in his truck) It was from his dispatcher, telling him to find cover and stay there. It was in the middle of the nite. He pulled under the next overpass he saw and parked to ride the storm out.
They tell you not to hide under bridges during a tornado, but in a heavy truck its a lot safer than in a lite car or on foot. While he was sitting there, five other trucks blew past him and kept going. A few minutes later the tornado hit and he watched things swirling around him. The truck shook something awful and then it moved on.
He decided to wait awhile, just in case. A string of police cars and ambulances went by him with the lights and sirens going full blast. He pulled out and followed them, figuring it was safe. About a mile down the highway, he saw them all collected with their headlights aiming at the five trucks, smashed and tangled together, way off the road. He never got to hear what happened to the other drivers, but said it didnt look very promising.
His company has a night dispatcher who watches the weather and sends out reports and warnings. Wish my company had one! I would have been one of the five...
