Ramble On - Or How I Get Through This Life

Who Did You Want to Be When You Grew Up

April 20th 2008 04:06
My parents are downsizing and moving out of my family home. I came across one of my favorite family LPs

I loved this LP so much. When I was growing up I wanted to be Bobbie Gentry.

She was a go-go-boots-wearin', jumpsuit workin', country songbird with a guitar, who left boys pie-eyed with infatuation. I listened to that LP over and over entranced by her southern honeyed gravelly voice. As I grew older, I was impressed by her accomplishments as a woman of the sixties. She was one of the first female country artists to write and produce much of her own material. She was college educated even though she was raised in poverty on her grandparents' farm. More on Bobbie on CMT.

She sang sad girl songs. Some of her lesser-known works include the original hooker-anthem "Fancy," One of my favorite Gentry's compsition is "Poppa, Won't You Let Me Go to Town With You?," a song about a tragically bored country farm girl who does all of her chores (and some Poppa didn't say to do) so that he'll take her into town for some hand lotion and chocolate. Genius.

She is most famous for "Ode to Billie Jo" -- the song where her boyfriend Billie Jo McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge. Enjoy!

Sorry, techno and I got our wires crossed, he is not me, an orble glitch, I'm sure he does not want to be a mother and is not yet 23.

So those comments are from me Mis, sorry, didn't see what I could do about it. Me, not being he.

Sorry about the stuff up Mis, boy was techno wild, I pm'd him.

Now, Wife homebuyer, those two together, mother, after the usual respectable time. Achieved all three by the time I was 23. And having completed a degree. I got on with it.

Hi Mis,

I wanted to be Olivia Newtown-John. I loved watching Grease and my brother had a video tape of one of her concerts from the "Physical" tour.

My sister shattered my dreams because I had nobby knees and Olivia didn't so there was no way I could wear mini skirts like she did.

From that I had a complex about my knees. And know I look at my daughter and she has inherited my knees.

Ho hum.

Love & stuff

Mis Wandering Lust Bunny,

I wanted to be Jimmy Olsen (Cub Reporter for The Daily Planet). Damn. I became a real writer instead of a journo.

But, yep, that was my dream. To be a journalist. I got rejected by Murdoch's gutter-rag in Adelaide (The Advertiser). I realise now it was because I was over-qualified to be a reporter of banality, inanity, dribble and piffle.

Recently, I realised I don't want to grow up anyway, so it was a fruitless exercise hypothesising about what I wanted to be when I grew up when I don't plan on growing up.

I could see you in a pair of flared jeans that accentuated your pubis.

I wanted to be a policewoman until I found out how corrupt the NSW police (or police force in general) are - and then I wanted to be a nurse and then I found out that you have to change people's dirty undies.

Now I just want to be me.

I hope that you have a cool car, hot babe, and nice house.....

I met the Monkees in the late 70s during one of their comeback tours across American Amusement parks. My job was to ride the rides with them and show them around. They were really nice guys. They were VERY popular with the ladies!

Hi Mis, great clip!

For me as a kid it was the young 21 year old Elvis that did it for me...though Curtis Mayfield was also one kool kat...Dean Martin also had me influenced as a young one.

Hiya Mis

oooh I wanted to be Bionic Woman... how cool was it to leap up onto buildings and karate kick the crap out of someone.

Gutted that when I jumped I couldn`t make that djdjdjdjdjdjdjdjdjdjdj sound that she did so I guess my hopes were shattered then!
