Where Has the Time Gone?
March 30th 2007 14:43
I can't believe it's Friday afternoon again, time goes so quickly. So what have we been up to in the White Household this past week.
Well last Saturday Daz, Callum and I met up with some friends of ours that we haven't seen for a while and went bowling. It was great to catch up with friends although Callum was his normal little monkey monster self and wasn't happy in just bowling he wanted to run around, try and interact and bowl on other children's lanes (he was the only child in our little group) and play on the Fast and Furious race car game. Luckily our friends adore him and somehow between all of us adults (there were 8 adults) we managed to keep him fairly entertained and our one game of bowling only took an hour longer than what the bowling alley anticipated (they reckoned an hour and a half would do but we took two and a half hours!) LOL! Callum now thinks that bowling with our friends is going to be a weekly occurance as this morning when we all woke up he was asking about going again tomorrow. Cheeky monkey! Maybe I'll take him with my sister and her kids during the Easter holidays. Here are some photos from last Saturday.
Sunday we had a lazy day as we were a bit tired out from Saturday. We just chilled out around the home, played various games and watched The Fox and the Hound which had been my Mother's Day present. I'd never seen the whole of the film and really enjoyed it... and of course had the obligatory tears.
This week Callum has been back at playschool so we've not been doing much in the afternoons, just the normally hanging out together and drawing. Oh yes drawing. The other day (Wednesday I think) it was a lovely warm sunny day so I thought it would be nice for Callum and I to sit out the back of our flat on the fire-escape with blankets and cushions and soak up the warmth from the sun and do drawing. Callum's thing at the moment is drawing vehicles, not just cars but lorrys with trailers, taxis, buses and so on. Due to him drawing on our recently lining papered walls in our front room we'd taken away his felt tip pens but I'd luckily found the wonderful don't draw on anything but the special paper Crayola Colour Wonder Pens. I highly recommend these to any parents, even though it's more expensive than plain old paper and pens it's much better to have around the household especially if you have a wannabe graffitti artist kid/s. I find it fascinating watching Callum (or any child) do drawings, they way they see things and draw them always interests me and I love how their minds work. Callum now draws his vehicles a lot clearer and I can even at times tell the differences between the different ones which beats having to guess each time I picked him up from playschool wondering what he had drawn. When he first started drawing cars I sat down with him and watched and asked him to explain what was what and I found this is a great way to learn how his mind works with how he sees things, also it means I can do the drawings myself. Here are a couple of the pictures that Callum did this week, I've explained on one of them what is what in the picture... don't ask me about the grumpy face.
And here's a drawing I did and a Rainbow that Callum did.
And yes that is meant to be a pot of gold at the end. Callum and I have made an agreement that when we next see a rainbow we are going to go on a hunt to find the end of it and the pot of gold and we'll split the treasure and buy lots of toy cars, sweeties... oh and a house.

Thank you, I try my best with this parenting lark. It's the simple things that seem to work best.

Flashes of memories
what a magical day you all had. I loved the pictures... budding Picasso you have there
ouch! I remember my cousin did this just after my grandmother had her front room walls repainted... white! He thought it needed a little blue magic marker bit of artwork... up the stairs too! Another cousin drew a lovely black moustache on me last year when I fell asleep on the couch... it was great trying to get it off!!!
aren`t kids great

Ooohhh I bet your Cousin got a telling off from your Nan. I did have a little chuckle at the image though. We were lucky in the fact it was only lining paper, it just messed us up wanting to paint over it white as it was red felt pen and he'd drawn a little line on each section the terror! LOL. And I'm sorry to say I really laughed at the hand drawn moustache, how long did that take to come off?!? Kids, we'd be a lot tidier and undrawn upon without them but jeez life would be so boring.
Thank you for popping by.

It's funny how quickly children understand the concept of treasure isn't it. A shop just round the corner from us sells those bags of chocolate money, Callum's always wanted me to go and buy him some treasure and then we have to hide it from Daz as he's a naughty pirate who steals it.

Mum's Word
Kids drawings are great. You're right. They say so much about how they see the world and how their little minds work.
Sometimes it's a shame they have to grow up.
Love & stuff

It is a shame kids have to grow up. Part of us as parents is wishing that they'd reach the next stage of their development when they are young but once that happens you wish it hadn't happened so quickly. I'm still in shock that come September my little monkey monster will start school, where has the time gone?!?
