Closing Guantanamo: Terrorism wins!

February 2nd 2009 22:05
This is what I know about Terrorism…… It works. Terrorist “regimes” are either politically or religiously motivated. Those premised on religion are usually the most dangerous. Terrorists are both foreign and domestic, and some foreign enemies of the American people have acclimated amongst us.
Terrorists are not global citizens, but rather global criminals and have sole interest in their own personal beliefs and moral certitude. They are methodical. Calculative. Secretive and are devoutly loyal to their cause and beliefs. They will not snitch. Terrorists are intensely self-righteous, not to mention self- indulgent and have no qualms about who they kill or what damage they do- it doesn’t matter your age, race, religion, socioeconomic status- your name, if you are an American, they prefer you dead. The more collective the body count the greater their success and the bigger the smile and public mockery.

Terrorists are in ever-active recruitment. All over the United States and foreign nations. They do not hesitate to tear children from the arms of their mothers to train them in warfare. Women are not immune either. It is a mission to kill Americans because we are deemed as an immoral society, that we follow and abuse a free democracy. Being a capitalist nation doesn’t seem to work in our favor either.
Domestic Terrorists hate the Government and groups that engage in activities or selling products that these “terrorists” stand against. Both Foreign and Domestic- terrorists are humanity’s greatest enemy.
Yet, we share the earth, air and sky.

It was an issue of priority for President Barack Obama to address American policy regarding terrorism. An “out with the old and in with the new” strategy on the issue of national security and how we “look” as a nation to other nations was a huge concern. The new President regarding terrorism has initiated recent decisions and actions, that may be irrevocably detrimental. By giving these non-citizen detainee’s that murdered thousands of innocent people, and millions of victims in the wake our rights, those they despise so much- we let them win!

In a matter of time, the military protocol for handling crimes of terrorism are going to be stuffed loosely in manila folders and tossed on an unwitting prosecutors desk that is not going to want to have anything to do with the trial in the least bit. What defense attorney would even want to touch such a case? There is no protocol for sentences for this severe of offense. Neither our Federal or State Court system are prepared to deal with war crimes, and Court Martial’s are not places for Terrorists. We are handing them America, like it’s candy to rambunctious children

With the closing of Guantanamo Bay pending, and the complete shut down of all secret CIA detention centers, the investigations now not only turn to terrorists- but of our own people- our great defenders. Is this my new America? Further halted are interrogations and investigations of Al-Queda suspects. Instead, our government is going to review how our military handled those detainee’s, review interrogations, decide what detainee’s to cut loose, send home, or transport off to a Federal Prison or contracted bed -because we have so much room here. Currently we house 201,784 Federal prisoners, the following is a table obtained from the Bureau of Prison that breaks down prisoner offense data:

Drug Offenses: 98,168 (52.5 %)
Weapons, Explosives, Arson: 28,186 (15.1 %)
Immigration: 19,860 (10.6 %)
Robbery: 8,918 (4.8 %)
Burglary, Larceny, Property Offenses: 6,705 (3.6 %)
Extortion, Fraud, Bribery: 9,011 (4.8 %)
Homicide, Aggravated Assault, and Kidnapping Offenses: 5,563 (3.0 %)
Miscellaneous: 2,039 (1.1 %)
Sex Offenses: 6,297 (3.4 %)
Banking and Insurance, Counterfeit, Embezzlement: 893 (0.5 %)
Courts or Corrections: 685 (0.4 %)
Continuing Criminal Enterprise: 556 (0.3 %)
National Security: 94 (0.1 %)

Looking at that, I mean really looking at that, are we even capable of breaking these kinds of criminals down to get to the truth? Is our system even educated enough, or even have the right resources to do this right? Are we skilled and trained at prosecuting and convicting homicidal, suicidal, religious fanatics? Can our criminal justice system handle this degree of violence? No, it cant and that is how terrorism wins.

We give in. We give them the rights that they deeply hate us so much for that they would rather kill us because we treasure them– and we negotiate. They wield guns, bombs- but when we defend ourselves of that, we are war mongers. We have given Nobel Peace prizes. Dinners at the white house. Of the detainee’s that have been released from Guantanamo Bay since September 11th , 61 went on to reunite with Al-Queda. I see that as a symbol of loyalty, secrecy and enduring dedication that they hold to their cause and their people.

Ok, so every now and then we actually prosecute murderers here in America. We even give survivors of rape, child molestation, torture- some slight taste of justice here and there. We can prosecute DWI offenders hardcore. We really don’t care about victims who are robbed so unless you’re somebody really important otherwise forget it. Every now and then, we’ll hold a domestic violence offender accountable, give them chance after chance before we get harsh.

However, the majority of crimes that we experience day to day our ever so prized criminal justice system just has a way of letting victims down. We still fall short- we fail to prevent abuse, harassment and stalking. We often fail missing child cases until it’s too late. If it hadn’t been for an average couple in Florida, to have lost their child in tragic way, and a strong passionate man and father to crusade for help- I doubt we’d have any better protocol then we did in 1981. Our system didn’t work for advanced laws and procedures, victims did. It’s true that statistics vary, but the majority average to report that only 30% of criminal offenses ever result in a charge,

We have a criminal justice system that sees the same offenders on a repeated basis, which speaks for itself. Thus far, we have exonerated I believe, 200 people for crimes that they never committed but were convicted of based on DNA. Appreciate what we can do forensically- it is a gift- and the only barriers to what it can accomplish is the money- staff, equipment and of course the ACLU, if they have their way, they will ban banking DNA despite it’s use in solving crimes.
The interior of life within prison walls is ever darkening and criminals only becoming smarter, quicker, wiser, clever and more well thought out offenders. They become more aggressive. After serving a term of 4 years or longer, that prisoner has evolved into an inmate- it’s who they become, and the majority will carry that mentality with them for the rest of their lives. We have nothing to be proud of in terms of rehabilitation. That is simply a pretty word used cosmetically much like “Child Protective Services” to make everything look and feel good.

Once President Obama signed the hold barring any further proceedings, investigations and interviews for 120 days, 2 cases against suspected terrorists were put on hold. But, in a daring move made by a Military Judge, Coronel James Pohl, on January 29th has the Pentagon shaking it’s critical finger. Judge Pohl refused to suspend the arraignment hearing regarding Ghaleb Al-Bihani, a Yemeni who has been detained for approximately 7 years. Al-Bihani has been identified as the being responsible for planning the attack on the USS Cole in 2000. There is evidence to the effect; he fought in the Arab Brigade, supported Al-Queda and the Taliban. His links to Al-Queda have been firmly established. If we value our Constitution at all I ask what are we doing? This tribunal needs to proceed and it needs to be done at the hands of professionals. The Guantanamo detainee’s need to be tried for crimes against America, not tried in America. This is how Terrorists win.

Civic Unpatriotism

January 22nd 2009 06:59
Today the arguments prevailed.

With the new administration assembling and charting their course ambitions are high, expectations are established, and change is setting course.

Sean Hannity said it best today. He summed it up in simple format as callers continued to dissent against his opinion. Some mad that he wasn’t enthralled by our President’s Inauguration Speech. Well, he isn’t far off on that. President Obama’s acceptance speech might make the books but some people had higher expectations than what was delivered at the Inauguration.

It’s a common debate.

The same caller ranted on and in typical “political-newbie” fashion clung to the primal arguments of politics that are long beyond rhetoric.

Then came the issue of the Boo-ing of President Bush.
I am ashamed of any American that appealed to that, applauded that, or themselves did that. That is not American. It is classless. It is tasteless and those who dip to that level wound the sense of unity that America is built upon- the honor, the Integrity, the sense of duty and respect- of civic mindedness- you, betray the true meaning of what the United States of America is principled on. A shameless act of immaturity and under-developed communications skills.

I think there are all levels of political engagement and if you at least have some then I will honor that. I believe that some people know everything about what’s going on in the political realm, then there are those that know and follow a little bit, then those that have one or two things that bother them, but really don’t know about the tiers of our Government or the cycles our economy runs by, or really who anyone is or does- all that is evident is the name of our President and that he “oversees” what happens with everyone in essence- that’s a big responsibility, but not one that is true.

I wonder how many people who vocalized such great hate against President George W. Bush, that had never voted in the first place, understand the difference between democracy and democrat. I scoff at the loss of identification as everyone appeals to our late Great 16th President Abraham Lincoln, whom I admire for his principle and character and commitment to his true self - that he was in fact a Republican. Yet, Republicans are what’s made the world so evil right? People, from every corner of this world are those mostly responsible for the hideousness of the evil that walks amongst us, not any political party and not our 43rd President.

The Recession began before President Bush ever made it into office. He walked into a problem and it took a collective bunch to worsen our condition. The threat of 9/11 was in President Clinton’s hands before he ever made it out of office. We just didn’t know to what severity Mr. Bin Laden was planning on. I thank George W. Bush for his service to our country as well. What he did, was for everyone those who loved and despised him alike. His speech in response to that- already made the books.

It was a horrible time to be a President. He fought hard to defend us, the people from the looming of threat of terrorism both foreign and domestic. It hurt to pay for an attack on Iraq and go off in search of the evil men, women and children who are systematically inclined to murder us regardless of our race, age, color, creed or status in the world. We have been walking targets, and our President made decisions that were right. We do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not cede or hang the white flag.

We are not at war in Iraq. While attacks occur, they are only in defense of an enemy of democracy.
We are there rebuilding a nation we destroyed yes, out of duty, out citizenship, maybe obligation- and while so many lives were lost tragically, we saved a nation of people from a very dangerous dictator. We are a very humanitarian country- remember Mogadishu. Our global presence is a necessary one whether we want that or not.

The Patriot Act. Well, I am not afraid of it. If you aren’t doing anything related to terrorism you aren’t going to be an issue. There are hindrances, but for common safety, we must make some sacrifices. I wrote a paper on the Patriot Act in a college class. It took 3 months of research and dissecting. I got an A on that paper. A month later on a trip to Vegas my things were searched both going and coming back. No one else’s was. Was there a link? Possibly. Do I care? No. You might but I don’t.

I am not here to argue his wrong-doing or decency as a President, I think of what it means to be a citizen and do honor our first amendment right to speech- but see the roles of government as those of great value, and yes, I get upset that we have criminals holding offices that need out. I don’t know of a President that was ever fully liked as he resided in the position.

At least George Bush’s clemencies weren’t his personal associates or had anything in relation to a personal criminal conspiracy.

In the interim, our new President has begun his work. A new day has begun and where it leads us time only tells.

Underlying Division

January 20th 2009 22:16
Today the world is caught up as it should be- in the Inauguration of President Barack H. Obama.

Not simply for it’s progressive positioning of historical proportion of what this symbolizes for the African-American population but because it’s a Presidential Inauguration.

They are all monumental and beautiful. New Presidents always carry with them a pocket full of dreams. Whether they bring them to fruition is another issue. As citizens, we should be swelling with hope, inspiration, and pride. Hymning “My Country ‘tis of Thee” in passing. This is a time of unity.

Even Kenya is throwing a party today…my friends, how cool is that? There is a spirit of global citizenship in celebration as I write…

This is a great moment in African-American history. It is a great moment for history itself let us not forget that.

It’s hard not to cry or be impassioned by what having a African-American President really represents given history and the pain and struggle that so many humans dealt with simply because of the color of their skin. There is sorrow, shame, and despise things that shadows history. A cloud we cannot evade. But, today the skies parted….so to speak.

(In this time of history, completely innocent strangers of all races, ages and socioeconomic backgrounds get murdered on our streets, playgrounds and parks because of the color of their clothes.)

Nevertheless, while the world is caught up in the excitement- I feel a bit, uneasy.

I’ll dish on that later….there is a blog I don’t want to point out to give it credit, but want to discuss the subject matter- it serves to remind me

There is other news going on that needs some attention….

Anyone catch the new Bin Laden video?
Calling for war against Israel in Gaza. Mocking President Bush. Taking credit for the American recession- why, why I beg, does he continue to prove these subtle points.

His words are like salt melting into an open wound….

I know it’s said that Bin Laden was rebuked by his oil millionaire family and I could go wildly conspiratol with this, but whose funding all of this? Seriously, he is so well protected…and for some peculiar reason-respected.

He’s the Charles Manson of Terrorism.

He just wrote a book. He made sure it was in English also.
You know to get his point across- to be heard.

I dont want to barter with his madness.

I am hoping that it was self-published and that no agent in the global universe would put money in his pocket- just as we would be doing, as curious as we might be, if we bought the book. We would be putting the money in the bank for our own assassinations- paying for the bullets, the bombs, the next assault.

There is a lot that lies ahead for our new President.
I have no idea what he has in mind to deal with this- this is exactly how President Bush's term started out- just prior to Clinton leaving Bin Laden sent his message.

This is not going to be any easy task by any means.

And as gently as tears of hope roll down a million faces today- I can’t help but feel- divided.

Pledge Allegiance to the Cynicism

January 14th 2009 06:45
I promised myself I wouldn’t start the year out this way-damming myself to current events and what’s happening on the political front. Nope, it wasn’t a resolution so I technically didn’t break anything- it was supposed to be inspiration. Yep- I took a pin to those balloons already. The confession of the closet political nerd.

It started with Ann Coulter on the Today show. I won’t even get into that and give the time, let’s just say I used to respect Ann and my ex-boyfriend was right about her (edited for content ;0) and in the end he was right –so if someone wants to notify him that I have succumbed and hang the white flag in defeat for the whole world to witness I am sure he’d be forever grateful
