What's Important?
October 28th 2006 21:44
Suffering from depression, I naturally find myself worrying about absolutely everything that's happening anywhere on the planet no matter what. Suffering from depression, this is not a helpful way to live!
I have been forced to really think about what's important - and worth worrying about - and what is plain old crap that can be regarded as such and forgotten.
What have I come up with?
Well, family, of course, but even that's a tricky one. There are certain members of my family that think depression is a made up disease and that anyone claiming to suffer it is looking for attention, lazy, and stupid. The person who said that actually doesn't know I have it, but considering his life over the past couple of years, I'm wondering now if his opinion might have changed!
Friends are also important, and depression (like many illnesses I suppose) will help you figure out who your real friends are. The ones who stick around. Apparently, I have two real friends, and I love them to pieces
The thing is, as hard as it may be, if someone isn't there for you the way you need them to be, and certainly if they're antagonistic in any way, you need to leave them behind. Like Dr Phil says, you're either contributing to a relationship, or contaminating it. Depression screws with you bad enough, you don't need any help from people who are supposed to care about you. I had a close call just this past week with my mother and was horrified to think that our relationship was to be lost forever, but thankfully that one has been salvaged through better communication.
How about something that's not important? God, there are so many it's hard to pick on just one for now........
And, you're going to have to wait for it, coz my daughter just woke up!!!!
Children have such bad timing
