What's a good sickie excuse?
November 3rd 2006 00:07
I woke up this morning and I was still tired, I was definately contemplating a sickie. I think I have 1 left before the end of this year. I was thinking I should use it up. Then I thought, "Oh man, what the hell am I going to tell my boss?"
Sickie excuses are the worst. I mean, fair enough if you're genuinley sick, but if you want to chuck a sickie cause you're still recovering from a night of drinking, you surely arent going to tell your boss that! I always have this dilemma about what I am going to say and how I am going to sound. Morning voice is always a good thing cause you sound croaky! But then what?
In the end, I come up with something stupid like "Cramps". Sometimes even "Not feeling well today, so I wont be coming in" followed with "If there is anything you need, just call me on my mobile". So I still sound dedicated to my work while on my death bed.
The other worst thing about a sickie is the next day when you come into work. People come up to you and ask you "How you feeling? Any better?" or "Hey, are you ok?" sometimes I feel like saying "I just chucked a sickie ok??! I was faking it!!!" I usually go in with no make up on. That usually works! But then you still have to tell people things like "Yeah, Im feeling slightly better now, thanks." or "I could be better?"
Kinda sucks chucking a sickie cause by the end of the day, I usually feel guilty and go through scenarios in my head of what Im going to wear, how Im going to look ill tomorrow and what the hell to say to people when they ask me if I'm ok?
All this lying is eating into my conscience, no wonder your mother tells you not to lie. Once you lie you HAVE to keep lying!

Anyway, screw it the excuse was in and I troddled off to the beach. When I go home in the afternoon I found no less than 5 messages on my answerphone with my boss checking to make sure I was feeling ok??? What the fuck? I felt like Ferris wagging a day off school.
Anyway, I always chuck sickies on Fridays so I never really have to worry about the next day moping. Of course my boss must thing it rather convienient that my flus always seem to hit on a friday morning when the weather forecast points all towards great conditions.

Chucking a sickie on Fridays here is a bit dubious. I think they expect a Docs Cert or something?
