What would you do if you find out your girl friend was a stripper

September 17th 2009 07:10
Ok, here is the catch. A little while ago, I wrote a story about how I once bailed after picked up a girl, because she work as a cop, because I am not conformtable with the idea of not been the one wearing the pants in a relationship. Really Long Link

A person that wrote a respond recogn I should not let my dream girl go, because of her profession.

This guive me a funny thought, then what if your girl friend was a stripper?

So, here is my question, what would you do if you find out your girl friend was a stripper?

It would take a very secure man to deal with his girl having that kind of profession. I'd bet that most wouldn't want to be in a relationship with a stripper simply because they'd be permanently jealous and irritated at the thought of other men ogling her.

Interesting that you didn't want to be in a relationship with a cop, though. Honestly I don't think that a woman's career choices necessarily determine what position she would take in the relationship. Curious to see what others think.

Funny story . . . well sort of.

Years ago - a mate, who was getting married - received a strip-a-gram as part of his batchelor party.

Turns out it was his former girlfriend (who we all knew) but who had turned her hand to the 'art' just to make a few extra bucks on the side.

Ouch - how awkward was that for everyone.

There is actually a lot more people in the sex industry then I imagine. It is actually kind of scary, I know there are even Uni students doing that for a part time job, very freaky.

Why?

Jealousy? Moral self-righteousness? Or another reason?

Nobody wants to expose themselves to what a stripper deals with unless they are generally messed up as a person.
The sort of person who would date someone that messed up would usually not have it together themselves and would be prone to jealousy, so finding out their partner was a stripper would probably be a deal breaker.
The sort of person who has it together and would not be prone to jealousy would not date someone that messed up in the first place (even without knowing about their stripping) because part of 'having it together' is not inviting problems into your life.
Conclusion: finding out your partner is a stripper is generally a deal breaker.

But is a stripper necessarily "messed up"?

While I'm sure that there are plenty who fit the stripper stereotype (drugged up, Daddy issues etc) I would also think that there are some who are simply very comfortable with their bodies and figure that they might as well exploit men for their money while they still possess that youthful beauty. They would make more in one night than a waitress would make in a week, thereby allowing themselves plenty of time to study for their real careers.

As a second-wave feminist I'm not a fan of the sex industry, however can understand that post-feminist women wouldn't have a problem with it. They would see it as an opportunity to make a lot of easy money in an (almost) empowering kind of way. Which is not messed up - it's just different to me.

It is not exploiting men for thier money, it is exploiting their own body for money. Anybody who would do this is lacking fundamental self respect for themslves amd for their body.
Considering this behaviour as empowering is just their way of fooling themselves, to avoid feeling shame for their lack of self respect.
This is the behaviour of someone who is 'messed up'.
