What the heck is going on?

2008 has commenced and we look forward to new horizons, hopeful that life will get easier for us, that in this land of milk and honey, we'll have more abundance. After all, this is the land of opportunity, where anyone can become a millionaire. But are you wondering why; when you go the grocery store, food prices are raising to the extreme? Are you worried how you're going to commute to work if gas prices don't stop escalating? You're not alone out there, millions of people just like you and me are worried. Used to be one income could sustain a family, now two full time incomes are barely making ends meet. Prices keep rising, but salaries don't rise exponentially with the cost of living.
Politicians are so busy slandering one another that they don't even address our concerns anymore, Perhaps, they know something we don’t. Maybe, just maybe our votes don't make as much difference as we're led to believe, as we'd like to believe. Who is really controlling the highest offices in the land? Do you know? Do you care? Well you should...
Our government was established "by the people, for the people", but the "People" are lobbyists, the FDA, Pharmaceutical companies, the oil industry, and the war machine.
The FDA supposedly regulates what we put into our bodies and is supposed to be there to protect us...why then are they allowing additives, chemicals and preservatives that are fattening, habit forming, and in some cases downright unhealthy and dangerous? Do you read the crap that's in most packaged food products? I use the term food loosely. Do you know that we're slowly but surely being poisoned by what we ingest? Those fast food boxes and meals we're giving our children are making them obese...We are a society of fast food junkies that are dying off from clogged arteries...Do you care? Well you should. Pay attention to what you're eating...read some labels people...if you want to eat all that stuff you can't pronounce...you're an adult, but what about your children and grand children? Do you want them to be sickly? Obese? Have a heart attack by the time they're 35? Now is the time to make a change...Pay attention, the FDA isn't looking out for you, they're a big machine with billions of dollars and they only care about one thing...billions more dollars. Not you, not me.
Right now there are some bills being passed right under our noses and without our even knowing...prompted by the pharmaceutical companies, that will take away our rights to buy and use VITAMINS...that's right, vitamin C, Zinc, all the vitamins you're buying now to try to prevent illness. Big pharmaceutical companies want ALL the money, they want to control everything we do to try to help ourselves and make ourselves better. Natural remedies would be against the law...Pharmaceutical companies want you to "Ask your doctor about" (fill in the blank with drug name) and make even more money off of your illness than have you be healed. Ask yourself a question, when was the last time a disease was cured? It's been over 50 years ago people...They cured Polio...and that as they say, was that. Think about that for a while, and ask yourself why there are so many commercials for drugs on the television now, in the magazines you read? Everywhere you turn, even on billboards as you drive...What the heck is going on?
Did you know that in the last several months of 2007 there was a law passed that makes it illegal for a terminally ill patient to seek "alternative" methods of saving their life? That's right...If I'm dying of a terminal disease and the standard methods of saving my life have been exhausted, it is against the law for me to seek alternative means of saving my own life. Are you paying attention? You should...this is your life we're talking about too. Now I wonder who pushed for that law. Who do you think?
And what about all this "weapons of mass destruction" crap...are we (and I do mean the current governmental heads) deliberately trying to piss off the entire world? Haven't enough of our Husbands, Brothers, Fathers and Sons lost their lives on foreign soil? Aren't you at all concerned that this war on terrorism has spread too far, to too many countries and now that we're winding down in Iraq, and that we're starting to threaten Iran? Say what you will about all of this, but who's benefiting from the war? And who's not? I'll tell you who's fighting this war, your family members and your friends’ family members...not the guys who start the wars family members. They are exempt, they are safe. It is the common American's "every Mother's Son" who goes to war on foreign soil. Not the rich and powerful Son's. Once it was our democratic right to question what the government did, what their reasons were for going to war, for passing legislation that wasn't in our best interest. Today, if we speak our minds against what is going on in our own country, we're called traitors, accused of treason...
I'm here to tell you that I love my country, and I care about every last soldier in every country of the world whose away from their homeland to fight the good fight. I believe they are serving their country with honor and dignity. But I sit here today and question those that have control of the helm, those that steer this vast ship called the United States of America.
I wonder whose best interest they are looking out for. I believe in what our forefathers strived to do when they wrote the Constitution. I believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. BUT...I also believe it's time Americans woke up and started asking some very vital questions without being afraid.
It's time we ask ourselves if we're happy with the conditions of our country...are our needs being met? Is heath care all it should be...how many of you don't have any? I don't...Why have we been fed a bill of goods with regards to socialized medicine. France has it, England has it, Canada has it....much of Europe has it...and they love it. Ask around...check it out find out for yourself.
Are you convinced that the "two party system" is positively the best way to elect a president? Are these lying, mud slinging, self serving candidates the best this country has to offer? Or like some of us, are you concerned that these candidates are puppets being controlled by the real powers of this country. Do you think it's time someone came up with a better plan on electing our "CEO"? How about letting us choose the guy or gal who has our best interests at heart and who will do the best job for the most people...How about some election reform? I say we allow any qualified (qualified being the key word) candidate to be able to run for President. I think it's time we had more than a two party system, and furthermore, I think that a cap should be put on the amount of money it takes to run for president. Say maybe, one million dollars, (just tossing out a number). Not a paltry sum, but definitely not what it takes now days to become President. That way, our running candidates will have to budget wisely...and in so doing prove they are capable of balancing the country's budget. No more huge contributions from corporations or individuals for that matter that want something in return, no more lobbyists donating thousands, even millions so that their interests are served, while our interests are tossed aside like yesterdays news.
Most of us have become apathetic...we live our lives with blinders on, afraid to make waves, afraid to be called out for being different. We go from day to day knowing things just aren't "right", but not knowing what we can do to help initiate change. I for one believe we need to let our voices be heard. Write a letter, make a call...protest, and I don't mean riot...protesting is a fine art, it is within the law, it is peaceful, but it is one way the everyday American can be heard above the roar of what is wrong in this country. Look for information on the internet...type in Fluoride, Aspartame, Poisonous additives in food, look things up...become more aware of what's going on. Don't just listen to your local news station and think you've got a line on what's happening...whoever controls the media controls what you're being fed. Go beyond the local papers and news stations, because guess what, they're owned by the rich and powerful. The only way to know for sure is to make and effort to get ALL the facts.....
So get angry, get upset, take a stand and take back your rights as an American... Are you pissed off now? You should be....This is your Country, this is my Country...yes, the land that we love and we deserve better. We deserve better from the leaders of this great place and it's time they know it.
