What or Who is Joy?

September 1st 2010 18:38

Joy is my best friend now and looks after me in every way possible. Where will I find this joy and how do I get it. Is it possible to show joy when looking down the jaws of some great calamity that knows no end? Where is my joy when I am angry, does it go away some place.

A fruit of the spirit, you guessed it, is joy. When you have asked Jesus to come and live within. You then ask that your sins be forgiven; you now believe that Jesus is the son of God. In essence this is the born again experience.

As all of us who have taken this step, we begin to experience change. A little like puberty but much easier to handle. We refer to these as fruit because that is what the bible calls them. Like a tree in an orchard, these fruits all come out in view. Oranges grow on an orange tree right. On a Christian grows love, joy and seven other fruits making nine in total.

In my preteen years my Sunday school teacher died. Mr Masters suffered from cancer. I went to his funeral on my own. My best friend and I waited outside the church. When they carried his casket out, his widow who was smiling, followed. For years, this irritated me. He was my Sunday school teacher how dear she is happy he was dead.

I now realize that Mrs Masters had found joy, true joy. A joy I have been looking everywhere for and it was right under my nose. What a fool I felt.

Here is something else I have learnt in my journey through life.

J.O.Y. actually means Jesus Over You.

It is important for us to keep our focus upon the One who is our reason for existence. Your post reminded me of Peter walking on the water to get to Jesus. He never sank until he took his eyes off of the Lord. Although we as humans experience a wide range of emotions, both positive and negative, we can triumph over negative emotions because joy truly does come in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Thank you so much for the reminder to keep our eyes upon Him. I am not sure about your other readers, but I really needed to hear that today.
