What makes a Superbowl team?

February 3rd 2013 17:21
As it is Superbowl Suday I was think about doing a Superbowl prediction but I feel like I can do that just before kick-off but for know let me take a look at what makes a Superbowl team.
If we start off looking at the defence I grow up with the saying defences win championships. But I see in the last few years that this isn't really true when we look at the top 5 team in the last 5 years who is there

New England Patriots
Pittsburgh Steelers
Green Bay Packers
New Orleans Saints
New York Gaint

By the way that list is in know real order. But take a look Patriots even with the defence mastermind which is Bill Belichick they don't have a good defence take at look in 2011 they were ranked 31st in the NFL. Green Bay don't have a great defence which we saw was the end of the in the 2011 play-offs. Then in 2012 having 49ers score 45 point against them to take them out off the playoff. I feel like know you don't so much need a great defense like the 2000's Raven the Steelers in the 1970's or the Bears in the 1980's you need a defence which can create turnovers that is what you need to win know.

Take a look at the Saints in 2009 there defence wasn't great but they knew that they weren't going to have the best defence what they wanted was a defence which created turnovers. They had 47 turnover throught out the whole season and this factor what made this team a superbowl winnning team but soming else these guys did was not leting the QB have time. With less and less teams been able to run the ball in NFL it is the way to go. Have a look at the New York Gaints in 2011 they had a great pass rush not allowing teams to be able to pass the ball can stop a offense. Really I feel like yes a great defence is good but a one sided side can't win a Championships just ask the Jets.

Know you need a offence who can score points and drive down the field. You want a elite QB which can handle 4th Quarter comebacks. You really do want another option by this a running game which can slow down the pass rush. Take a look at the Saint in 09 had a great QB in Drew Brees and a running game with Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell. Really what I am trying to get across is that you cann't be 1 dimentional in Football if you are you will be stopped.
Really know you need to be good on both sides of the ball to win the superbowl unless you are the greatest offense or defence of all time you might just be able to get away with not being good on the other side of the ball but as in the NFL today there is know great defence or offence you need both elements if you want your hands on that trophy.
