Ramble On - Or How I Get Through This Life

What Is Your Favorite Rainy Day Song?

June 25th 2007 03:51

Today when I was out on my run, it started to rain. It is strange to think that a grown, woman still likes to play in the rain. I, however, have always been compelled to run outside just as the downpour begins. There is something special about drenching rains that I find fascinating. I love the smell just before the storm arrives. I love the foreboding winds sweeping in the ominous clouds. I love the warm water soaking my hair, clothes and skin. I love to skip in the rapids which form along the sides of the street fighting to reach the drain. And I love the way I become hypnotized by the sound of the rain pelting against my skin.

I close my eyes and let the warm summer rain seep into my being, my existence. I almost feel saturated with life when I do this. I don't think there is any other time when I feel more alive than when I am splashing around in the puddles. That got me to thinking. What is your favorite rainy day songs? Mine is "Fool in the Rain" by Led Zeppelin

Some of the obvious choices would be:
Prince-Purple Rain
Garbage - I'm Only Happy When It Rains (from Garbage)
REM - I'll Take The Rain (from Reveal)
The Carpenters - Rainy Days and Mondays
Cowboy Junkies - Souther Rain (from Black Eyed Man)
The Doors - Riders on the Storm
U2 - Love Comes Tumbling
Eurthymics-Here Comes the Rain Again
Postal Service-Umbrella
Rain-Beatles
Lemon Jelly- Nice Weather For Ducks
Ben Harper – She's Only Happy in the Sun
A-ha- Crying in The Rain
Bob Marley & The Wailers – Sun Is Shining 1
Keane – Sunshine

Mmmm, another great question, Mis.

Mine varies so much.....at the moment I'm in the 80s with The Cure and Lloyd Cole and The Commotions....but tomorrow could be something different...so I'll be back.

I agree with Dusk Devi - November Rain is the perfect song to listen to when the rain is pouring hard outside. Or any other sad ballad song.

Mis,

MacArthur Park every time.

(Makes mental note to himself. Buy it. [I'd probably listen to that song exclusively for about 6 months if I had a copy of it]).

I'm still waiting for a Rapper like Eminem to do a cover version of It's Raining Men titled It's Raining Chicks.

Get dis
It's rainin' chicks
I gets to take me picks
wish I had more dicks
Jus bitches, skanky ho's
an my pricks

It's pissin' down
wearin' me golden gown
Howa y' take a betta shower?
Dis is man powa
sniffin' pickin' th' flowas

Sis? Bro?
I gotta go

Dis is gettin' way too sick
Gonna go play wif me own prick.

Dancing and singing in the rain ... la la la ...

David ...

Somehow I don't think the word "chicks" would feature... if you know what mean...

And what the hell is up with this song??! I've never understood... 'someone left the cake out..." WTF?!

When I heard Apu's daughter singing it on The Simpsons, I thought the lyrics were a joke... until I heard the real version again..."...and I'll never have that recipe again...oh noooooo..."

Noooo.

Mis, I love love love Morrissey....and The Cure.....can't wait to see them in August.....I hope Robert Smith my face in the crowd, I love him...

Anyhoo, I thought of an obvious song by Travis "Why Does It Always Rain on Me?' I think the answer is that he's a miserable git, but I love the song and it has happy memories for me in England.
