What is love?
October 6th 2010 11:55
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.
-I John 3:16 (New International Version)
I am sure that most everyone reading this blog would agree that we live in a dog-eat-dog culture in America. It seems as though every time we turn around there is another murder, another gruesome crime, another person betraying their friend so they can reach the top of the corporate ladder. That is not, however, the way that God designed people to live and behave.
As Christians, we have a moral responsibility to love other people like Jesus loved us. Think about that for a moment. Jesus loved people enough to die an unspeakably painful death to save them. Jesus loved people enough to leave the comforts of heaven and come to earth. Jesus loved people enough to go out of his way to help and save them. Jesus loved people enough to become one of them.
While not all of us as believers will be called upon to suffer unspeakably like he did, we should be prepared to follow his example and love people unconditionally like he did every day.
