Myspace and Facebook crash: wishful thinking or lonely aliens?
In shocking developments this morning, social networking giants Myspace and Facebook are down and will be unavailable to users indefinitely.
Overloaded with requests - for cyber-friendships, applications that make reality television seem a worthwhile pastime and countless comments, each more inane and pointless than the last - the sites have crashed, and in some cases, vanished from cyberspace completely.
One cyber-expert from E-online, told Caulfield's Ghost:
"E can confirm the sites have seemed to have been hacked into and are down," said Candace Cameron Bure (who played DJ on TV’s Full House). "My fan sites were there when I logged in last night. Then, when I logged in this morning, they were gone! I was talking wall-to-wall with this really hot Guatemalan chewing gum manufacturer. On both my sites, actually - double the cuteness! He was about to ask me out too. "
It appears the same social aliens that made the sites popular in the first place have led to their overload and at least temporary demise.
The sites came to prominence in the last decade when television wasn’t wasting nearly enough of viewers' brain cells or time. With shows like Buffy, The Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm following the lead of The Simpsons and Seinfeld and creating (shudder!) intelligent, quality television, people were actually learning ways of thinking, increasing their vocabulary and becoming useful members of society.
With more reputable sources having better things to do, Bob Saget begged to comment so we sorta let him.
"DJ...uh, I mean, Candace, is absolutely right," Saget said, brushing off yet another layer of fresh dust from his knees. "And you should check out my blog – I’ve already written three on the future of online social networking. And that was just this morning!"
Saget said more, but we got bored and annoyed, so started watching The Wonder Years on DVD.
