Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

What do you miss most when you travel?

Having just spent the last two months flitting half way around the world I was quite teary eyed to be boarding the final plane in the wee hours of this morning and heading back from Japan. The beautiful scenery was compensation though - between the view from the outside cameras and the starry sky outside the window, complete with shooting stars as well as the most amazing sunrise this morning I was quite mesmerized.

However, as much as i wasn't ready to leave I have to admit I have missed one thing in particular. One thing that I miss whenever I travel to no matter where I travel and cannot take with me at any time I travel....

MY SHOWER!

It doesn`t matter how clean the house I am in, how luxuriant the shower gels and soft, fluffy towels I never quite feel as clean as i do stepping out from a hot, steamy shower in my own bathroom.

So while I do exactly that... step into my shower and have a cheeky soak, wash away two days of travel fatigue and dirt (I hear we have had a load of rain I can indugle just once?).... I ask:

What do you miss most when you are travelling?

<LOL>...what a great fun topic, Ash

I so MISS my pillow and bed! They can call it the 'heavenly bed' or however they wanna brand it...it does not compare to mine

I'm with Lara, I miss the comfort of my bed and pillows. And also, not having to pack and unpack, but most of all, I miss my washing machine & laundry! I get so sick of washing my clothes over the bathroom sink and putting on semi-wet socks.

I also miss not being able to do washing properly...

I miss driving my car, because I take it for granted so much when I'm not travelling. Good topic Ash.

Despite local misconceptions about missing Vegemite - my pillow is also high on the list.

Tracy's pretty much on the money too with the washing.

I totally have to agree, nothing beats the first time you sink into your own bed after extended (or even short) travel. I have to say though, I always feel such disappointment when I wake up and realise I am in my own bed and no longer off adventuring!
7. June 5th 2008 @ 07:13. KylieW Says:
Definitely my bed.

Also, my pets and family (not necessarily in that order, but they're both very important).
8. June 5th 2008 @ 07:27. Johnny Come Lately Says:
I have to say the same. My own bed is a haven and coming back to it is always great.

My animals. Definitely the animals.

My own litter box Ash, oh, and my luggage usually.

Hey Lara,

hahahahaha! heavenly bed indeed.... I must admit there is nothing quitel ike your own bed, under those covers, especially on a chilly winters night... oooh I may have to get back into mine with all this talk!

GO THE BEDS!

Hiya Aimzster

ah yeah after my shower i miss my washing machine the most - putting on semi-dry socks is NOT cool and doesn`t do any good for the foot odour either.

I also hate living out of a suitcase, that`s one of my pet hates!

Good choice

Hey Trace

Yeah, this seems to be high on a lot of people`s priorities. Perhaps someone needs to come up with a foldable washing machine that fits snugly into the suitcase

Hiya Journeywoman

ahhhh the car! Public transport is NOT high on my list of priorities, although the trains in the UK aren`t too bad (definitely NOT the underground though). At least in your car you can go where you like when you like and can blare the music and stretch out if you are lucky enough to be the passenger.

Great choice

Hiya MNG

hahahaha so you don`t go away with a suitcase packed with vegemite???

I agree the pillow thing is just as personal as the bed thing - no one quite has one like yours, although I find some of the hotel ones better than my own on the odd occasion!

Hiya TFD

ah yes the first morning.... I always wake up and wonder where on earth i am. I know the scenery I just can`t, for those first few minutes, quite place it. Oddly, when i am away though I never seem to have that problem!!!

Hiya Kylie

ah we seem to have competition between the bed and the washing machine going on!

I can understand the family bit too... although sometimes I relish the break just as much!

And that counts for the work day too.

Hiya Anon

They would be pretty high on anyone`s list I reckon... an excellent choice

This is really stupid but I used to be on the road a lot and the thing I alway missed was simply getting a glass of milk when I wanted it. Sure, you could get it in a restaurant but I ended up paying as much for one glass as I would pay at the store for a small carton!
24. June 6th 2008 @ 16:39. Ash Says:
Hiya James

Ahhhh now that`s interesting and I hear you TOTALLY on this one! It`s so frustrating not being able to get simple things, or being able to get them at double or triple the cost.

Hi Ash,

Oh I can hear you loud and clear here, even over all the soap bubbles... it all reminds me of the time ...
26. June 13th 2008 @ 01:33. Lilla Says:
*giggle*

... suffice to say, the first thing I did when I finally got to my hotel room in Houston Texas, after about 150 hours of flying and waiting around airports from Honolulu to God knows where, was to take a 25 minute shower.

Oh sweet Mother of God, it was so good.

When travelling in China and through certain parts of the himalayas, I missed being able to eat food I could recognise as edible *chuckle* luckily you can get two things no matter where you travel in the world...

Potatoes and noodles.

27. June 15th 2008 @ 10:28. Ash Says:
Hiya Lilla

ahhh I`m feeling the power of that shower right now! That`s how I was after my 150 hours flying from the other side of the world... nothing on earth like it!

hahahahaha re: the food. When you head to Japan you should keep this in mind. Breakfast was a WHOLE adventure all it`s own league. I must have taken 2 hours to get to my table and I think I had 2 things - bacon and toast - because all the other stuff looked... like something I wasn`t feeling adventurous at trying first thing in the morning.

Go the shower!

Hi friend! Glad to see you back! (Yes I know that I am a bit late responding myself!)

Lara, Aimzster, Johhny Come Lately, Kylie, Travel Fairy Dancer and I all agree. There is nothing like my bed and pillow!

Mis

Be well
29. August 10th 2008 @ 08:25. Ash Says:
Hiya Mis

ahh now I must apologize for taking so long to respond to you! We get so caught up in life sometimes don`t we?

So it`s unanimous then... bed and pillow are the takers!

Ash
