Ramble On - Or How I Get Through This Life

What Do You Listen to When You are Pissed Off?

June 21st 2007 06:31

Over the weekend I watched Fight Club one of my favorite movies of all times... these classic lines by the character Tyler Durden got me to thinking....

Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

Readers what do you listen to when you are pissed off?

Great question.

Easy choice for me. Pearl Jam's Alive.

Or the sound of gurgling blood and screams for mercy as I slash someone's throat? [But that's my other life independent of Orble. I don't like talking about it much in a public. I'm trying to get my body count up before I hand myself in for fame and glory].

As to Fight Club? I love the story behind the book getting published. The writer, Chuck Palahniuk got so pissed of with his writing being rejected, he just vented. And, surprise, surprise, publishers loved it.

There's hope for me yet.

L7 - Shit List
Thats the song that springs straight to mind.

Sympathy for The Devil - The Rolling Stones

and a few other bands that work a spell for venting rage-

Nine Inch Nails, Prodigy, NWA, Zepplin, The Black Angels

I like listening to Nine Inch Nails and Beastie Boys. I'm not sure the neighbours would agree but it certainly helps me...especially when I sing too...

Four words:

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.

Five words if you add Metallica.

Zack's screams, and Tom Morello's massive riffs ooze attitude and sheer 'f**k' off value... '..rally 'round the family... with a pocket full of shells...'

And the dark lyricism and demonic riffs from the Metallica boys can really help you feel like there's some people on your side...

Tracey,

This is kinda crossing Mis' posts, but have you heard Sydney string quartet "Fourplay" cover the Beastie's "Sabotage"?

Very cool!

The Foo Fighters song Enough Space is great when you're pissed off.......some great yelling work in that tune.

Like Dusk, I'll pull out Guns n Roses Appetite for Destruction album when I'm pissed too. Nothing like some 80's rock to get that anger off your chest!

Oh yeah, Public Enemy are good for angst too.

Hi Yoda

Yes, I agree with Rage Against the Machine, especially Killing in the Name Of...I haven't heard that version of Sabotage, might try and find it now...I'm intrigued.

Hi Mis

This is a great topic for a post. It's good to get that anger out with music I reckon. I also really love Fight Club,

See you,

Tracy

Awesome question,
I've got to say The Reflecting God - Marilyn Manson would be my song choice.. but then again anything by Pantera is great when you're pissed off too.

Soundgarden, Let me Drown... Ice Cube, No Vaseline... Supergrass, She's so Loose (when its female related)... EPMD, The Headbanger...

But if I need to relax I'll listen to a whole album of whichever artist mentioned above.

And if I need to forget I'll surf Orble...

I can't narrow it down to one or two songs, but I can predictably offer up a single artist.

Alanis, of course.

This is a great topic for a post. It's good to get that anger out with music I reckon. I facilitated an anger management group for many years. I always drag out the music...much better than how these folks were dealing with their anger!

Thanks so much for your kind words.

As beautiful as that song is, it's not my Anger song.

The one above is untitled #1.

This is Number 8 -

Hard to find a clear version. This is only the second half of the song, but it's the best part. First half is alot like untitled 1.

I've seen this live, and can compare it to very little.

People think that irish music is all U2 and the Corrs.

They forget some of the things that happened that actually shaped Ireland and what people and artists had to say about it.

The green hills, blushed red with shame.

Heh. Any song that has a lot of yelling, drums and crazy guitar songs. The only one I can think of at the moment are Guns N Roses and maybe, once I've mellowed down a little, Bon Jovi.
