Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

What do you like to do on a winter`s evening?

Well, winter is finally here.... for me it has been a long two year wait after having dodged the chilly cold fingers of my favourite season whilst I skipped around the world. And here it is at last. Coupled with that we have been fortunate enough to have rain mixed in with it all too. There is something slightly mystical about a clear, crisp morning. Waking up early when the world is still asleep, snuggling under the covers and then slowly emerging like a new butterfly ... every day! Is there anything as magical?

Actually there is.... a wintery evening! The day is complete, jobs have been done and what has not been touched yet soaks away from the mind with the rising steam of a hot bath. Candles flicker against the white walls, eyes close in complete relaxation, breathing steadies to match a content heart... oh yes! What`s the best part of your winter evenings?

I hate winter. It's cold.

It's all nice cosy when you are warm in your bed and you don't have to get up.....but I have to get up. Damn reliant children....

Bed, of course, having warmed your feet up first. To sleep perhaps to dream. Ah, yes, I remember it well. Now, just what was that you said again, Ash?

So long as one remembers to get up in the morning.

Must try embedding those damn videos again.

Great pics, especially the first, makes me feel I ought to be a drinker, but my drinking days are over, never having begun. Don't recommend it please, it would kill me. True story.

It is indeed fortunate that I have never been a drinker, but what better than a hot chocolate to go to bed on, but frankly I'm usually well set to just jump in.

Enjoy the cuddle, I just know you have a teddy bear.

Slipping into a nice hot bubbling bath with sparkling red wine and chocolate-dipped strawberries by your side; then going into a sauna and meditating before snuggling into bed. If I'm lucky, I can get my hubby to massage me. That's heaven.

Hi Ash

I love season changes but I have to admit that I'm finding this Sydney winter sudden and bitter. It is nothing like an English winter though so I'm grateful for that. One my fave parts of winter is having a plump, soft quilt to dive under at night. There's nothing like it and of course my husband to cuddle. I also like clothes changes, wearing jackets, scarves and more layers. I just love change.

Last weekend we went to Kangaroo Valley with friends and our dogs and it was wonderful, so peaceful. It was cold though, about 3 degrees at night, phew! I would love to share some pics but I'm having troubles getting my phone pics compatible with Orble. I'm getting a new camera soon all those woes should soon be behind me and I'll be snapping away. I loved your pics, Ash.

Hi Ash
The ideal Winter's evening...
- All layered and BUNDLED... watching the waves around sunset with hot chocolate or chai
OR
- Vanilla candles burning... A bottle of nice red, a home-cooked meal... with a cake baking in the oven... and a good DVD

If it's a really wild and wooly night? With hail, thunder and lightning? And there's water everywhere?

Put on a pair of shorts, a shirt, and run around outside all over the suburbs barefoot.

Stand on the footpath as trucks whizz past on the main roads, and get drenched. Play football with the puddles. Basically revisit childhood.

Then come home, have a shower, towel down, put dry clothes on, wonder why I don't do it more often, and write theses in my mind about adulthood versus childhood, insanity versus sanity, reality versus virtuality, and artificial pleausres versus real ones.

Then get stuck into the artificial pleasures.

Ha ha Ash, laughing at David's response, sorry... my timing seems impeccable again...*lol*

*ergm*

I'm certainly there about the writing thesis in my head about this vs that *ROFL* but not the running out in the hail and cold, voluntarily....Brrr! (well not often) *lol* ..and those artifical pleasures of winter? Aaah Merlot, Merlot, Merlot. No better season for it.

...and a good book, since my husband is usually at the SES (funnily enough), and my eldest daughter loves Nickleback. She has every song I think. I liked this one. My favourite is that one about the Hero that they wrote for Spiderman movie.

Hot baths and sleep are my other favourite winter night activitiy as I don't like to use resources for artificial heating ...

I like to re-watch old movies in bed sometimes too.

...watch a Rugby match!!

The only point of winter (for me) is snow, Rugby and my wardrobe!...can wear 5 layers at once!...as for the snuggling up and cuddling?...don't need to be cold for that to be the best part of any evening...

...speaking of mystical...I do love waking up to snow...inside a warm house...everything is sooo quiet and 'twinkly'...

Bring on summer though...I love it when the heat is on! Despite being brought up in England, I feel it is my genetic heritage to thrive in heat.

Hope you're having a great weekend Ash hon...

Next Saturday will be a grrrreat Winter's evening for Rugby.

Hi Mrs M

~laughing~ your comment cracked me up! Those kids! Maybe you should just buy two double beds and push them together in one room and then problem solved!

You have your kids now... there is no need for having your own room anymore EMBRACE THE COLD!

Hi Katyzzz

hhhmmmm a bubble bath just isn`t the same without a nice glass of red.... I don`t encourage people to try out addictive things.... they become a little... um... addictive! You`d be having hot baths year round.

awwww I have a bear that sits on my dresser... maybe he is feeling a little cold and needs a cuddle?

keep warm!

Hi Tracy

Yes it certainly seems like you are getting a blasting down there. We are fortunate enough to still have quite sunny days although as soon as the sun sets it gets chilllllllllly!

I just love change.

I will raise my glass to that one for sure. Bring it sistah

Kangaroo Valley sounds interesting - have not heard of it before. Look forward to seeing where you went. I hope your camera woes get sorted out soon - birthday coming up by any chance?

Thanks Tracy - I love taking photos (like I haven`t said that often enough ~lol~)

Hi Lara

hhhmmmm there is something so cosy about the smell of fresh baked goods wafting through the house on a winter day.

As for watching the sunsets winter is definitely the best time for that. There is something so beautiful about the sunset during winter - those burnt orangey colours that set the sky ablaze.... oh yeah!

ah red wine season.... I just wish I had a fire place at home and life would be complete.

my sister thinks I`m a nutcase because I watch movies more than once.

awwww you`re like the video... Nickelback are a great band, they have some good song lyrics (for soppy ones like me). I saw them when they were in Brisbane a couple of years ago... WOW! Their drummer did a solo - -- - you couldn`t see his arms at one stage they were just a blur and with fireworks going off on stage around him - almost as good as Robbie. Your daughter has very good taste in music ~pats daughter on the back~

Hiya Dusk

hahahahaha Funny you should mention the rugby - I thought of you last night during the game. My toes almost made cracks in the tiles with all the curling.

Oh I love it when it snowed. We never got snow where I grew up so the first time I saw it was in the England when I was 21. My friends mom came rushing into the room to wake us up one chilly morning... laying in the warm bed with the curtains wide open and watching the flakes whirl around outside.... one of the best winter experiences I have had!

Yeah cuddling on hot summer nights? Not a fan! Space.... air.... and lots of cold showers

I think you should have been brought up in Africa and me in Enlgand - would have suited the inner thermostats much more by the sounds of things.

My weekend has been very uneventful... makes more a nice change. Thanks for asking. I just know yours was PUMPED with that fab win last night

big hugs

Hi Ash,

I love the cold, its so moody and perfect for indoor entertainment of the cinematic variety. Board games are a good time too.

The smell of a fireplace burning, generating warmth, or a nice hot, steaming bubble bath soothe and relax.

The winter night skies are so clear too and the moon radiates brilliantly, natural beauty.

Hiya Ash.

Now where was I after watching that Nickleback video? Oh yes what to do on a winter's evening, snuggling up with my boys and watching a film is a favourite. Or if it's raining all snuggling up under a blanket on the settee by the window and watching it together and singing the rain songs.

Take Care.
