What are your MUST HAVE Albums?
September 14th 2009 08:43
I recently bought my new phone, a Nokia 5800 Express Music, which I had a small humorous whinge about HERE. But one of the truly amazing things about Nokia's answer to the IPhone was that I received with it 365days of unlimited music downloads to pack onto the phone or my PC.
I have now started downloading pretty much everything I see and know onto the PC and/ or phone but movies are my forte and I know oodles about film but nearly nothing about music. I listen to 2DayFM, MMM and occasionally JJJ. I also like Radio National for some great talkback - god I am starting to sound old.
This is pretty much a cry for help - below I have listed what I think are my TOP MUST HAVE ALBUMS - these are albums I grew up with that have many memories for me or some music I just can't live without.
What are your recommended MUST HAVE Albums - I want to download them and add them to my phone's collection. I already received a few from a friend on Facebook, thanks Dan, but all your suggestions will increase my love of music. Thanks to those that help me out.
These are not in any order:
JK'S MUST HAVE ALBUMS
U2 - Rattle and Hum
Pearl Jam - 10
VAST - Visual Audio Sensory Theatre
David Bowie - Changesbowie
Hendrix - Corner Stones 1967-1970
Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits
Silverchair - Neon Ballroom
Led Zeppelin - Remasters
Bob Marley and The Wailers - Legend
Lenny Kravitz - Let Love Rule
Nirvana - Nevermind
The Art of Noise - The Seduction of Claude Debussy
Jeff Buckley - Grace
The Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
Eric Clapton - Unplugged

Sinead O'Connor - the best of, or at least The Lion and the Cobra or both, I love Gospel Oak as well
Otis Redding - the very best of, vol. 1 and 2
The Specials - Best of, doesn't matter really as long as it includes 'Message to you Rudy'
Bob Marley - greatest hits
Joan Jett/The Runaways - single songs 'I Love R & R' with The Sexpistols, Bad Reputation, Cherry Bomb (if you can find an album with all of these songs even better, but doubt it exists)
The Pogues - Fairytale of NY (song)
Iggy Pop - anything you can find
Tom Waites - single song 'Chocolate Jesus' or the album (can't remember the name of which includes this song) also love 'The piano has been drinking (not me)'
Aretha Franklin - Anything you can find, or possibly better a compilation soul album with several artists.
I like best of or greatest hits albums because they usually include my favourite songs compiled from several albums into one, and seeing how I have copies of most of my favourites in several formats (tapes, MP3 etc) buying a package deal type thing appeals.
Hope you find this helpful

Have fun investigating music, it is great fun. Oh, check out some of the true classical music, by the London Sympathy, the New York Philharmoic, look at Beethoven, Brahams, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and so many more. If you haven't listened to them, you should. Oh, I almost forgot P.D.Q. Bach, a little known son of Bach, famous in his own mind but quite an unusual musician. I think you'd really like him.

I like the fact that by looking at your individual lists you start to see a glimpse into your individual personalities and musical interests. WAY COOL!!
I am also a bit shocked I forgot a Beatle album in my own list and damn me for forgetting Metallica, Pink Floyd & Queen. All some of my faves.
Have a great day ladies and gents
