Ramble On - Or How I Get Through This Life

What are Your Favorite Songs about Food?

July 26th 2007 06:29
There may be any number of pop songs that mention food, but far fewer are the tracks that are actually about it. 'Strawberry Fields Forever' does not concern itself with fruits, you wouldn't want to taste Frank Zappa's 'Burnt Weeny Sandwich', and when Robert Plant asks you to 'squeeze my lemon', he's not in need of help preparing summertime drinks.

Here are some of my favorites:
""Alice's Restaurant"-Arlo Guthrie"
"TV Dinners"-ZZ Top
“"Peelin’ Taters"- Junior Brown
" "Breakfast In America" - Supertramp
Rock Lobster-B-52’s
"Rubber Biscuit"-The Chips/The Blues Brothers
"Spam"-Monty Python
"Dixie Chicken"-Little Feat
""Cream"-Prince
"“Cups and Cakes” - Spinal Tap
"Ice Cream Man" - Van Halen
Hot Dog - Led Zeppelin

Thanks Tom for the art!

Right into this one, Mis,

I like Aeroplane Jelly,

Well, didn't I do well, this time.

Does 'Green Onions' - Booker T & The MGs, count??

How about 'Brown Sugar' - Rolling Stones?

'Pour Some Sugar On me' - Def Leppard

Is 'Milkshake' - Kelis, food?

'Cherry Pie' - Warrant

...'Raspberry Beret' by Prince and 'American Pie' by Don Maclean don't really count do they?

'Sweets for my Sweet' - Drifters(?)

That's all I can think of that I like...

Hope you're well Mis...much warmth...

Egg Man - Beastie Boys
Eat to the Beat - Blondie

And I agree with Dusk - "....my Milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and ner ner ...is better than yours.....ner ner...." that's a tough one with the lyrics.

Mis,

Breakfast at Sweethearts - Cold Chisel.

Campbell lane
Through the window, curtain rain
Long night gone, yellow day
Speed shivers melt away

Six o'clock I'm goin' down
Coffee's hot and the toast is brown
Hey streetsweeper, clear my way
Sweethearts breakfast is the best in town

I Make Hamburgers by The Whitlams. Although it is not really about food:

My first customer was Megan
She came in for a hamburger with the lot - no meat
"Hey that's a salad roll" I said and we started going out

My second customer was Susan
she came in for Diet Pepsi morning tea
Each day and I said "You don't need to be on a diet.
Do you wanna come out tonight?"

I said "I'll bring Gringo he's got a lot of money
And he'll take us to the bars where they've got a view.
He'll buy us all those beers they give it to you in bottles
They put lemon in the top it don't taste too bad I'm telling you"

My third customer was Maria she came in for hot chips and sauce
"More sauce" she said. I said "now you're talking"
and she took me home to meet her mother

My fourth customer was Sandy she came in for nothing I could see except me
So it was I too, was eating a hamburger of sorts within an hour

I make hamburgers I get all the girls
and I take 'em out to dinner and I give 'em all a whirl
and If they work I keep 'em If they don't I keep 'em too
But I teach 'em all how to be dirty girls like you

Oh good topic!!

How about the ketchup song by Los Ketchup or whatever the hell they were called. Dumb song, but I did find it addictive.

My favourites would be Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard (anything by Def Leppard really), and Rock Lobster by the B-52's would be one of my all-time favourites. Also the song Keilbasa by Tenacious D (okay, so it's really about comparing a certain appendage to a sausage....but that's kind of about food right???).

Hey

Try the Milkshake by the VIllage People or how about Tutti Frutti by Littlle RIchard or Sugar Sugar by the Archies.

Does Hot Chocolate count? Or Richard Harris's Macarthur Park count (where he left the cake out in the rain) or the Blue's Brothers who "Did the Mashed Potato".

Don't spose Bananarama or Meatloaf fit into the category either - huh?

Maybe Chocolate Salty Balls for the South Park soundtrack, Strawberry Fields, American Pie or My Boy Lollipop.

Sorry - got on a roll there.

Nice idea for a post.

Cheers

My baloney has a first name
It's O-S-C-A-R
My baloney has a second name
It's M-A-Y-E-R
Oh, I love to eat it every day
And if you'll ask me why I'll say
'Cause Oscar Mayer has a way
With B-A-L-O-G-N-A

I can't get that commercial out of my head so, now I'll mess up your head too!
