What a load of Globaloney!!

August 5th 2007 06:04
I was all excited for a minute, I was reading a magazine and found a great new word: Globaloney The questions flowed, what does it mean? Who made it up? How can I use it? Imagine the metaphors and double entents in everything I write, how cool, how clever, how much fun......then I saw it is trademarked. What does this mean trademarking a word? Does this mean I can't use it in a sentence or a title, what am I supposed to do, pay the person who made it up every time I use it. How the hell can you trademark a word?

I'll have to admit, I hesitated before writing this post, I mean should I quikly run out and trademark the alphabet before I tell the world of Orble that words are now trademarked and if you don't get in first all words will be out of reach to you. Imagine the trading going on, I'll l end you my "and" for your "the", no you can't have the capital "T" today I've sold it to the Financial Reveiw for an entire year.

Is it just me or is this absurd, trademarking a word? Je ne comprendez pas. or whatever the french say....do French people trademark words?

I am going to sleep on this before I write my post on Globaloney, maybe the owner will contact me so I can get some clarity.....

It is an exercise is verbal engineering.
Create a word to define a political stance.
Here is the book:

Why Louie,

...that's just plain LUDICROUS ....(My word).. I paid for it, get your own!!!...*lol*

/seriously/ I s'pose that if the name is going to be the title of a political manouvre or utlimately a product like Tinkerbelle's (dolls)... they can trademark away?

Kayzzzzzz yes, there will be silence, the internet will be contraban and we will all be criminals, then they'll trademark the thoughts in our heads and all there will be left to do is eat and sleep as long as we don't think about it

Interesting...and *strange* -- i suppose it's 'cos the owner made the word up, and has visions of the word being a $-maker He'll be *renting* it out soon!

Hi Louie

hhmmm maybe we could all become millionaires by coming up with new words!

I heard a little while ago about a company wanting to trademark 'Yellow' - fair enough it was the intended name of their company but can you imagine the problems that would cause? Can you trade mark a colour?

Ash, can you imagine the colour Police going around making sure people stop calling yellow, yellow, we would have to rename.....absolute Chaos

And LaraM yes we should all make up words for the cash, tho I am thinking it might be more profitable for me to quickly trademark something indispensible like AND or THE or I ...that way no-one will be able to write a sentence without me....forget the money, imagine the power!!

I've heard that Paris trademarked the phrase "that's hot" once and thought the same thing. How can you trademark a name or phrase???

Kylie W that confirms it....if PARIS DID IT: IT IS DEFINITELY AS ABSURD AND LAME AS I SUSPECTED............

Well you owe the proud owners of Globaloney to use that word, i have Trademarked - and, the and I - so you owe me $57.70 not including any posts made prior to this post that I haven't seen.........

You may of course buy the rights to and, the or I for the very tidy sum of $50 per word per year....

See you in Globaloney court.........

GLOBALONEY sounds sooo GLOBALOONEY!!!!

They can have the friggin word! Who wants to use it anyway?

They should pay us for inadvertently reading the grotesque and globular polysyllabic monstrosity!

However, if the extreme right wing...like our Federal Government, gets wind of this, maybe they will try and own every word or phrase of dissent?

Well, if they did, it would at least cause protestors to get creative with their adjectives and derisive statements I guess.
