Westboro Baptist Church (WBC)

After putting away the strong negative emotional responses this "Church" has inspired in me with their hate mongering aimed at America in general, and certain victims in particular, I am still unable to see any logic to their messages. While I advocate their right to free speech, I wish they had the sense not to exercise it so often or with the amount of hatred they so often employ. Here's a sampling of their idiocy: WBC Hate Machine
I dare you to find something you agree with whole heartedly. If you are able to do so, please share.
Today they will be picketing at the Raliegh County Convention Center, Beckley, WV in opposition of the memorial dedicated to the 29 dead miners who recently lost their lives. This is typical WBC behavior. They scan the headlines for tragedy and insert themselves into an already volatile situation with the aim to only inflame the matter further.
They were demonstrating at the coal mine before the body count had reached 29-while the search for survivors was still being conducted. How they have managed to avoid being caught up in, or causing, a seriously violent backlash continues to impress me. Impressed in the same way I am impressed with the lifestyle and survival instincts of a dung beetle. Not necessarily in a "Hey, that's pretty cool!" sort of way. (Hmm, this brings to mind similarities between these two species not previously considered....)
Fred and the leaders of his group are mostly well-heeled former lawyers. This gives them a clear read on just how close they can drag their herd to the line and vomit their misguided vitriolic message on the other side without facing legal ramifications or losing their tax exempt status. Very clever, Fred. In a Charlie Manson/Marshall Applewhite/Jim Jones/David Koresh sort of way. (I wonder how much Kool-Aid, Nike Shoes and purple sheets Fearless Fred has squirreled away in the WBC basement.)
I am a member of The Patriot Guard Riders. A volunteer group that often escorts funeral processions of fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airman. These WBC zealots have been at more than one of these solemn events rejoicing in the death and gleefully dancing around the shattered and grieving families.
There is one singular positive thing I can say about the WBC. They live in Kansas-I do not.

Primitive Poly Pontifications
"But in the seventh year the land is to have a sabbath of rest, a sabbath to the LORD. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards."
Perhaps this is the seventh year, and while not technically a vineyard, I do have quite a tree collection.
I shall bake some cookies for the protesters whom I suspect will arrive shortly to damn my blasphemous toe and rejoice in my newly acquired limp.
