wellness - let's start at the beginning

wellness

What are Wellness Outcomes ?

This describes the health aspirations of the modern person: That is - We don't just want to be treated for an illness :We wants to get better. We are'nt just happy with growing old gracefully : we want to stay young and vibrant for as long as possible. The modern woman doesn't just want to have a healthy baby while she's still in her twenties. She wants to have a rich, rewarding and fulfilling career and a lively, interesting youth, then wants to have a baby in her thirties or forties or even fifties. She wants THAT baby to be happy and healthy.

It's happening all over the world and it's happening here.

You see, the tenet of the modern health care worker is to keep up with all these aspirations.

It means that health care workers have to develop new specialties, break new ground in attitude and direction. The new local GP is actually a collection of people these days - doctor, physio, natural therapist and chiropractic as the HCF ad could well say.

And the actual practitioners themselves need to change also. That's why I studied to become a naturopath, homoeopath, nutritionist and herbalist.

Why nutrition and herbal medicine? Well, our job as a pharmacist has always been to support the work of our doctors and consider ourselves part of the health care team. With wellness outcomes now being the focus of 60% of the population (according to a recent survey) there is an additional "team" job to do as part of this support structure. That job is to support, or complement "treatment" aspects of the patient's needs to the next step they want to arrive at.

That's why I wanted to add to my pharmacist skills. I wanted to be where my clients were and hopefully take them to where they want to go. You see, it is my belief that sound nutrition is the fundamental requirement of good health, and therefore is essential to wellness outcomes.

To achieve wellness means to recover FULLY from a chronic disease if possible. More and more people are finding that to be possible.

What are you doing on my territory, kid?

Love the bird, dream on and raise everyone's already unrealistic expectations, too high, they are in for a huge shock, do people want to be well? No, not generally until it's too late, and they've begun the Pop the pill merry go round.

No amount of placating talk will work. I feel sure your intentions are sound. I am a realist, people are so difficult to move, worse than the environment you know, everyone thinks they are an expert on that.

Preaching to the converted? you should do well there, a bit like the environment.

My words too harsh, probably, but it will take much more than providing some basic information, unfortunately.

Sincerely in apposition if not opposition, the health genius, that's me.

But I realise I mix not with the esoteric few but the majority view, that's the sad thing about blogging.

Louie, no darling, I have no objection to anyone blogging on anything, my mspaintart is also about health and there are other health bloggers here.

Blogging is a free outlet for anyone and I wasn't really serious when I suggested you'd infringed my territory. I wish your dad well, he's probably a lot more patient and tolerant than I am.

Get him to try some computer art to test his skills and his patience.

Explore this big bad wonderful world in any way you or your dad please, I don't mind being muscled out (joke, ha ha)

Your dad sounds a very interesting person.

I'm sure he has a lot to offer the world with his knowledge and alternative ways of thinking.

I just don't agree that "natural" health products do the trick and they can be as damaging as prescription medicine and blah blah blah as I said on my other post.

I'm opting out of too much involvement, to me, talk is always cheap, you can talk about things for ever and in fact do nothing.

I am not suggesting you or your father come into this category but I wish to opt out of things I am not wanting to pursue any further, I already spend far too much time blogging but while I perceive it serving some purpose and I have the time and can do so time effectively I shall continue to do it.

Good luck, you're already doing better than I in terms of votes, not that I see that as the ultimate assessment.

Continue to enjoy yourself.

Good luck and great respect to your dad.

cheers Katyzzz, I don't think my Dad would be able to do computer art as well

For what its worth my Dad is also a Pharmacist and wholeheartedly beleives in Balance between the sciences. He is the first to send someone to a Doctor when modern science needs to be involved.

Good health to you katyzzz

I think both my grandmother and mother are herbalists - although it's more through experience than having a formal degree. My mom for example wrapped leaves from a plant (I don't recall the name) when I sprained my ankle. And lo and behold after only a couple of days my ankle was fine.
