Is Green Tea A Medical Miracle?

October 6th 2006 01:59
This drink is being credited with having the power to cure everything from a hang nail to Cancer, and everything in between. But is it really as powerful as it's claimed to be? The answer is maybe.

There have been some promising studies done on green tea. The National Cancer Institute (NCI), has had good results with testing they've done on animals. They show green tea does protect against cell damage, and the reduction of growths and tumors. Unfortunately, the results haven't been as good on humans. But, they are continuing to do research, so I guesse the feeling here is there may yet be some potential to uncover.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA), has also gotten into the mix. The conclusion they've come to, based on several studies, is that the results did not show that green tea had any positive affect on Breast or Prostate Cancer.

It all sounds a little confusing, but what I gather is that the jury is still out. I don't think drinking a cup or two of green tea every day will hurt you, and there may be a chance it can help, so the decision is really up to you.

If you're looking for a medical miracle here though, I wouldn't count on it...at least not yet.

Out Damn Spot!

October 5th 2006 01:30
Picture this; it's the night before a big event, a big job interview, a first date, the first time you meet his mother, and there it is, a big red zit! But, wait a second, you're 36 not 16. What the heck, weren't those supposed to go away when puberty did?

Unfortunately, they don't, not completely anyway. I have stumbled upon a great solution; visine! You know their tag line, visine, it gets the red out. Well, it actually does. I swear I don't work for visine, I just discovered something I feel I must share with the masses.

All you have to do is put a drop on a cotton swap, apply gentle pressure to the offending area and wait 30 seconds. The little bugger won't know what's hit it! the red is immediatly gone, although the bump will still be there the visine solution will help to dry it up and make it go away quicker.

You will have to re-apply throughout the day, but it usually lasts for several hours at a time. Try it out next time your body attacks you, and let me know how it works.

Do You Know Your Heart

October 3rd 2006 23:09
This being Breast Cancer Awareness month, most people believe this disease is the number 1 killer among women, WRONG! Heart Disease is the cause of 43% of deaths in America among women every year. The saddest part of this horrifying statistic is, many of these deaths are avoidable. The problem is knowing what the signs of a heart attack are when speaking about women.

Most of the symptoms of heart attacks in women mimic other problems, and women being the care-takers they are, tend to ignore them as insignificant and brush them aside. This behavior can lead to devestating consequences. So, the first step is knowing a warning sign when you feel one.

Symptoms

1. Pain in the shoulder
2. Pain in the neck
3. Pain in the jaw
4. Shortness of breath
4. Quick onset of nausea

You can see how, often times, these symptoms go left unchecked. The fact is, they can be telling you something is very wrong, and should not be ignored. If you have any or all of these symptoms seek medical attention immediatly! Don't wait for the classic sign of chest pain, which is more attributed to male heart attack victims than female, it could cost you your life.

There are 3 big risk factors when talking about Heart Disease, which may help you to prevent ever even having a heart attack.

1. Smoking
2. High Cholesterol
3. High Blood Pressure

Keep all these things in mind the next time you have a question about whether or not to see your doctor. For more information regarding Heart Disease go to, www.americanheart.org

Online Dating

October 3rd 2006 19:28
By no means do I consider myself an expert in the area of cyber dating; however, I do have some experience, and I've learned a few things you may find helpful.

Being of a certain age, I find it more and more difficult to find that special someone. The problem is, I have learned the hard way, that dating in the work place is never a good idea, and I threw away my beer goggles years ago. So, that means my options are much more limited
