I was at an art auction @ Dante's Fitzroy last week. The upstairs gallery is a really awesome space & a couple hundred people packed the place out. Drinks were flowing freely, bids were coming from everywhere & red spots adorned every picture by night's end.
The auction was organised as a fundraiser for a charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged people in Bangladesh. Something in the order of five grand was raised & all the art was donated by local photographers.
Gertrude St is a veritable art crawl, with galleries everywhere you turn. Definitely worth checking out if yr in Fitzroy!
Ok, I confess - I was bartending at the opening!
