On this blog, I look to analyze all of the Major League Baseball organizations. The main paradigm will be through what I will call, "Organization Evaluations." This model is based on an article written at Baseball Prospectus by Nate Silver in 2006 (link is here, but I think you need a subscription).
The legend is based on how valuable a player would be to a championship-level club. While a guy like Jack Wilson may be a starter for the Pirates, it is unlikely he would be considered an above-average asset on a championship team. As well, a "Protected Contract" are the first six years of a player's career, where they are still arbitration-eligible.
I will start with the Pittsburgh Pirates and then work my way around the MLB.
