Weight Loss, Fact or Myth?
February 6th 2012 16:46
Weight for me is something of a puzzle just as it is for many. With all the gadgets, gizmos, magic potions, promises of incredible results and everyother line a carnival barker might shout it is no wonder that people are confused about weight loss.
The makers of the latest gadget to reduce your waist line are betting on one thing and promise you that it is not your weight or even your improved health. Now don't get me wrong these things work. It doesn't matter whether it is Buns of Steel video or the PX90 workout. It doesn't matter if it is a 40 year old stationary bike or an elipical machine. It does not matter if it is your dad's cast iron weight set or a Total Gym. All these things are made to work and they do. I know, I have used them one time or another and I got results. But do you wanna know what the exercise industry is betting on? Now I am not wanting to piss anyone off here so I will admit there are some decent companies out there that are interested in your over all health but they are few and far between. Anyway, what the makers of exercise equipment are banking on is, YOU! Yep, little ol' you and me. They are all for us to buy thier product and get in better shape. To drop those unwanted pounds and get healthy. But what they don't want you to know is, they are counting on the human side of you, the weak side of you.
What they want is for you to buy thier product, use thier product get some results then your weak side steps in and before you know it you have stopped using the product and not long after that the weight comes back and it usually brings friends. So late one night when you can't sleep and you are up channel surfing you come across one of those PITA'S, (pain in the ass) informercials. Guess what they are selling the latest weight loss gadgets. Nothng can compare and you are guarenteed to lose all the weight you want, call today operators are waiting. You bat it around for a few days thinking about how much you want to lose weight but have always failed in the past. But this newest thing might work. Finally you have conveienced yourself that this is the one thing you have to have in order to lose weight. You order it and when it comes in you use it and sure as the world the damn thing works. Pounds drop off like leaves in fall. Meanwhile in the corner comes a sniffle, a sigh. You look over at the newest peice of exercise equipment you bought before you bought the one you are using. Does any of that makes sense?
What the companies are counting is, thier product works without a doubt but they know that you and me will usually only go at it for a short period of time before we go back to the way we was. They are counting, they are banking on us not working. They know we are going to back slide and if they come up with something just a tad bit better, maybe an extra bell or whistle on it we will buy it. That is wat they are banking on, our failure!
People the only tool you need is something you already have. Used right you will lose weight. Use it incorrect and guess what, yep, you gain weight. It is that little peice of fat between your ears. The gray matter that keeps that hunk of junk you call a body going. Folks if you ain't got the mind set you ain't gonna lose weight, plain and simple. Weight loss isn't about the altest gadget or magic formula, weight loss is a mental game. You think fat you are going to be fat. Think skinny and you might still be fat. Think healthy, use common sense, moderation and I promise you will lose weight. I have. I have lost over thirty pounds and have maintained it for about 6 months or so. I still have a lot of pounds to go but I am getting there.
Somethnig a friend asked me not long ago didn't phase me at all. He asked, "Aren't you frustrated with not losing more weight. Why don't you use that drink thing. You know drink it twice a day and then a sensible supper!? I looked him dead in the eye and said, "Did you get dumb over night or did it creep up on you?" He didn't bat an eye and replied, "No not over night I just been migrating that direction since I can remember!" Well I did not get fat over night therefore it ain't gonna come off over night. I promise you had I gone to sleep one night the picture of health and correct weight and then woke up fat I think the shock would have killed me! Nope being FAT is a life time commitment for some anyway. I have been heavy all my life it seems but now is the time to do something about it. I mean seriously, I want to be a big pain in the butt to my grandchildren and hopefully thier children aswell. I have an agenda here people.
So is weight loss fact or mythical? It is fact! The myth surrounding weight loss comes from the weight loss people themselves. They develope things that work, things that promise you fast results, things that will help take reposnibility out of your hands.and then they sit back and rake in your dollars. Losing weight can be done with the right mind set. Without the right mind set you will fail. I do not care how much junk you buy none of it will put you in the right frame of mind that is something you have to do. Trust me it ain't easy, it hard work and you will slip backwards from time to time. The thing you have to do is keep pushing forward and not let these little back slides stop you from your journey. Remember, these slips, trips and falls are only temporary, getting to your goal is permanent. Once it is chisled in stone there is no erasing your goal and there is only one person who can stop the journey and that is YOU!
I am not sure if I have made any sense here today, I hope I have. I tend to rant and get whimiscal from time to time so bear with me. I know weight loss can be achieved thru self preservation and commitment. I am at 255 down from 285 and have been here for more than 90 days doing what I have done to get here. Eat sensible, use moderation, exercise and good old common sense. Tools we all have, you just have to be willing to use them. It takes courage to lose weight and get in shape, you have what it takes. Otherwise you wouldn't be reading this peice of drivel before you. You are seeking answers. I don't have the answers for you but maybe I can show you where to look. Hell, I barely have the answers for me figured out.
So until next time, same channel, same time (roughly) enjoy your journey and have a great day.
