Is the weekend really a weekend for moms?
October 27th 2006 21:41
It is Friday night and about 20 years a go I would have been thrilled at the fact that the weekend was here. Time to PARTY!! Life was good then.. Don’t get me wrong, my life now is better than it could ever be, and I would not go back to my 20’s for a minute (ok, maybe for a weekend).
My point here is that for all the 21st Century moms out there, the weekend is not really a time for rest. At least during the weekdays, the kids are in school and you could actually get some things done.. not much I know, but in the weekend you have the kids for 48 hours straight, no lunch break, no 15 minute break, nothing.
My household needed to get a routine down, because I was beginning to have anxiety attacks once the weekends approached. So, here is my advice:
1 KEEP SCHOOL HOURS- I love to sleep in but I realize that kids need their routines and if they go off them on the weekends.. trouble for you
2 CHORES- The weekend is a time to relax and enjoy.. WRONG.. yes, yes, you need to relax and enjoy buy you can’t forget about the daily duties. Kids should have a list of chores that need to get done even on the weekend.
3 PROJECTS- Take advantage of the 48 hours and have the family help you start or finish that project you need to do.
4 TAKE TIME OUT- Yes, you want to take advantage the family is together and put them to work but use this to your advantage while they work you take some time off.. a few minutes of “your weekend”
I follow these simple steps and now welcome weekends with the same enthusiasm as I did way back when and with no hangover.
