web designing: How the heck do you display search results?

I'd need help from ASP whiz here...

As I have very limited knowledge on ASP programming (most unfortunately not ASP.NET yet), and the COM engines that displays lots of records of result tends take a long time before showing the result pages.

How the heck do you post the results of probably 1000 search results, at least 50 per page, without hanging the black page or login page for too long? Is there some way to speed things up or something?

I know these are stupid question for techies, but perhaps someone can enlighten me on this?

H.E.L.P..... ?

A good example is this blog.... I see when the blog post results are not out yet, the popular Orble posts, recent posts, Google Ads, etc are already coming out first.

Is there a way to do that faster? Is it Javascript that is doing the magic?
