Walrus and Its Uses

February 16th 2012 12:51
Traditional hunters once used the walrus parts for meat and its fat. It had nutritional source. Its flippers were fermented until spring, its tusks were used for tools, its bones were used for carving, its oil was used for warmth and light, its skin made rope and house boat coverings, its intestines and gut made parkas that were waterproof. Many traditional uses have been fazed out, however the meat is still eaten and the tusks are a part of native art.
