Banana Republic - notes from a born again Queenslander

A revised perspective of Australians and politics after moving from Victoria to Queensland

Vote for the Ranga

September 23rd 2010 18:50

Julia Gillard's elevation to theTop Office has also elevated the often picked on status of red, auburn, ginger and strawberry blond haired Australians, particularly the ladies.

It seemed that Labor voters surveyed at Australia House in London felt an extra boost for their political choice if they had red, ginger or marroon streaked hair. Although most of the excitement about “a red head and a woman” Prime Minister were confined to Ms Gillard’s early days in office.

Famous redhead Kathy Lette, author of acclaimed 1979 Sydney surf scene novel Puberty Blues, was asked if her hair colour would influence her vote. “Absolutely,” she replied. “And my politics.”

Did you vote for the ranga?

Ginger cropped Trish of Margaret River in WA said her hair colour would “definitely not” be changing her vote as “Tony Abott is the much more interesting” leader.
