If you happen to be a first-timer, be surprised with how lively, wonderful, creative and jolly is the Semana Santa Celebration in the Costa del Sol, Spain. Your stay in their hotels will provide you a different experience of Seaman Santa celebration.
Renowned procession of Costa del Sol is from Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday. It is lead by two large floats – one for the Virgin Mary and the other for Passion of Christ. These floats are carried by more than 50 men, usually barefooted, rhythmically swaying to make the statue alive and dancing. They are being followed then by thousands of penitents showing their sacrifice of love. Together with the march are those men dressed in long royal blue robes, with faces covered and wearing tall pointed hat like those of witches. These men are said to be representing anti-Christ.
What made Costa del Sol’s Semana Santa very popular to tourist and students is that they do not celebrate in cries and mourns, rather they shout and dance and rejoice on streets. There is even a band playing religious songs that people sing along with. Also, the people dress elegantly as they join the march. This is not a requirement though.
As have been originated in Spain, Semana Santa had always been a popular and respected event, especially in Costa del Sol where elite and rich people do usually go.
