Communication: Speaking

November 12th 2006 06:34
Like listening, speaking also is a problem amongst people. They do not know what to say, when to speak or whom to talk to. They are clueless. They just want to say what they want to say, and while doing that, they see nothing else! They don't care or respect the listener. Quite paradoxically, the problem of speaking can only be cured by learning how to listen.

Speaking is a way of transferring our thoughts and feelings to another human being through language. Therefore, words play a crucial role in communication. They are the ideas shifted into the sounds and vowels.

The choice of words is so vital that any slightest mistake can ruin everything. Maybe some of you know, every 23rd of April, the president of the U.S.A makes a speech on the (so-called) "mass-killings" of Aermenians by the Ottoman Empire during the first years of the 20th century. But the president stirctly avoids using the word "genocide." Because he knows a word, a tiny little world can create world-wide problems. Also you can't call a colored-person the N word. It's totally offensive. These examples show the power of words.

Also, as you all know "In the begining was the Word." Here, you see the language at the center of existance. "God saith, 'Let there be light' and there was light." Again, speaking is the very source of creation. A Book is a written form of a speech. The author, or let's say the narrator, speaks to the reader. All we know about religion, science etc., all we know about this world and other world(s) is through words.

What about the position and importance of speaking in daily life? Think of the power of the word "please" and you'll understand the importance of speaking in the right way.

Some advice? I've got you covered:

a. Be clear. Say what you want to say.
b. Choose the words correctly. Don't underestimate the power of words.
c. Look into the listener's eyes while speaking. It makes them feel that you are speaking to him/her, not just speaking.
d. Use gestures. It helps you to explain yourself better. But don't overdo it.
e. Don't speak too fast. Let a little silence intervene the words. It makes them stronger.
f. When you end speaking, do listen!

Finally, I advise you to read the book Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell, to see the importance of language. It's telling the power of words by using powerful words.

Communcation: Listening

November 11th 2006 11:19
Listening is one of the core aspects of communication. It's quite hard to do for most of the people, but the poin that people don't see is that it's the very core of any long-lasting friendship.

a. First of all to listen to someone, you must think that he says something worth hearing. You may see something in common between you and him/her and you are enthusiastic about hearing what he/she will say. That's a good start.

b. Let him/her speak. Give her/him time to express his ideas, feelings, thoughts about anything. Hear and listen.

c. Try to nderstand him/her. From what he/she says, try to find his/her motives, and general his idea of life and friendship. Try to understand his ideas, and try to learn how he/she sees the world. Be in your friend's shoes.

Listening is only one side of the communication. Next, we'll move on to Speaking.

Choosing the Right Gift

November 6th 2006 06:47
Birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas are all the moments of present giving and taking. A good opportunity to show how much you love and to see how much you are loved, or not. Gift-giving is a kind of communication, but more than that it is an attempt to create a memory, a memory to remember. That's why people think for days and nights about choosing the right gift. Because if it fits right it can be the emblem of friendship.

Most people spend too much money on gifts because they think that the price of any gift shows the quantity of their love. For example, a guy buying a gift worth of $300 loves his friend more than the guy who buys a gift worth of $30. That is nonsense of course. The idea of gift-giving is about remembering and sharing, not spending the most money.

Your Girl Friend's Best Friend

November 5th 2006 20:15
taa-daa!

The most problematic relationship is between a boy and his girl-friend's best friend. First of all, if the girl's best friend is a male, forget about the "best friend" part. It's the biggest lie on planet. The only time a girl and a boy are best friends is when an elephant flies by using its ears. It's not best-friend but probably a sex-friend or at least, the sensual-friend

I Love You, But...

October 27th 2006 06:53
...you are a moron.

There are many ways of expressing your love to your friends/lovers etc. You can say it directly, or your actions may speak for you. Your gift, or a letter may show your love. It's up to you. But the most common way is to tell. For this purpose, English language has a sentence which is quite plain and easy to pronounce

The Thick Line Between Love & Date

October 18th 2006 14:33
Even if you are a pathetic loser, sooner or later you'll have a date. No matter how you look, what you like/dislike, who you are. Even I, a god damn nerd and/or geek, had some. This is the way of Mother Nature, you can't stand against it. But you must know that this is not the end, it's only the beginning.

So, you see the handsome guy/beautiful girl, (you notice her/his pysical appearance, and pyscial aesthetic qualities of him/her only, at first sight.) and ask for a date. This is the first, and probably the best (and only) step into a healthy realtionship. (lol!) You two, will go out, see a movie, have a dinner, have some chat and learn about each other

Quotes on Friendship

"Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather is one of those things that gives value to survival."

Social Life: A MMRPG

October 16th 2006 05:06
In society, people have some roles that are given to them by the conventions. It's like a role-playing game, a massive multiplayer role-playing game. Roles may fit or may not fit to each and every individual. But, one way or another you must fit into one of the stereotypes. You must wear the mask that has been chosen for you, and wear it all the time. I mind you, all of your life!

That is not a simple trick to do if you are not happy with the role you are given. You must pretend to act like one, though you are not happy with the situation at all. On the other hand, if you are not happy with the role you have, that is a sign of wisdom. It shows that you can not easily be shaped like clay or some sort

A True Friend Stabs You in the Front

October 12th 2006 17:18
English playwright and wit Oscar Wilde says that. It sounds a bit cynical but it is quite right.

We all make mistakes, we all have flaws and no friend of yours -or mine- is the "übermensch". Therefore, sooner or later he/she will make something that seems very wrong to you, something that will hurt your feelings. And when that moment arrives, you, as a friend must forgive, forget and hold on to your friendship, because only friends will do such a thing. Besides, there are thousands of reasons to forgive. I'll give you a few, and you'll complete the list

Thanls Adele,
If you think listening is easy, then you must be a good friend. Almost all the relationship I've seen troubled, is because of the communication breakdown, mostly because of NOT listening to the other.

Deorre,
From what I see, respect is the keynote of a friendship. If it's lost then you will lose also the harmony of the two souls.

The beginning of the civilisation is also the beginning of the war. and it has never ended, yet. And I can see no lights at the end of the tunnel. pessimistic, or cynic if you say, but I think that is the ultimate truth about war, it never ends.
