Unique Connections
Have you ever sat and thought about the connections that are made between each instrument and the individuals holding them? It is very complicated when you truly think about it, but it is part of what makes a band so great.
You have 4 instruments: Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar and Drums.
You can have more or less than those instruments, but when you add instruments it all falls into the same process, and when you take out band members or instruments, you still have to cover the missing roles.
Here is the basic process:
Rhythm Guitar - Bass Guitar
Lead Guitar - Rhythm Guitar
Bass Guitar - Drums
Drums - Lead
They all feed from each other in seperate ways and without a single process, it is hard for a band to stay together. This is why I feel that a 4 member band is the strongest formation. Not to few, not to many, its just right.
The Rhythm Guitar and Bass Guitar are forever bonded in the rhythm section. The bass has its place as the eternal root and spine of the music, and the rhythm guitar holds everyone together. Without the Rhythm Guitar, there is no melody for the lead to play, and without the lead, the drums have no accents or fills that match the music. At the same time, the bass drums need the rhythm guitar to tell them when to put more energy into a song, or when to break it down, and without the bass to keep the pace, the timing would be off.
There are so many different dimensions that this equation can be broken down into, but few that are better.
