These are some games that I like this weekend.

Kentucky @ South Carolina: Kentucky off a loss at Alabama to go to 2-2 in the SEC. All of their losses have come on the road. A surprising South Carolina is in 1st place in the SEC East and helping them is freshman Bruce Ellington. Pick: Kentucky

Villanova @ Syracuse: After both teams losing MLK day, Syracuse to Pittsburgh, and Villanova to Connecticut, both teams want to bounce back and win. Corey Stokes for the Wildcats is struggling and Corey Fisher is riding the high wave having a good game against the Huskies. Kory Joseph for the Orange is questionable, and the leading scorer at 14.2 PPG. Pick: It matters if Joseph plays, if he does, 'Cuse wins, if he doesn't play, Villanova will win.

Ohio State @ Illinois: With the Buckeyes going to one of the hardest places to play, Assembly Hall, the Buckeyes want to stay #1 and undefeated. The Illini will go in there pumped up with Demetri McCamey. Jared Sullinger is probably going to get player of the year, moreless, rookie of the year. Pick: Ohio State, but I think it will be a very close game.

Tennessee @ Connecticut: Tennessee has a streak going to beat top 10 Big East teams beating Pittsburgh and Villanova. Connecticut is at home which will be a big factor. Scotty Hopson and Tobias Harris will have to step it up and the Volunteers will have to play great defense. The X-factor in this game is for the Huskies is Alex Oriakhi. Pick: Game-winning shot by Kemba Walker as time expires.

St. Mary's @ Vanderbilt: This is a key non-conference game for both teams. St. Mary's has been a team nobody has looked at and is quietly going up the rankings. Jeffrey Taylor will have to have a good game for the Commodores to win this game. Pick: St. Mary's by 3

Texas @ Kansas: This will probably be the game of the day. If the Longhorns want to win Tristan Thompson will have to play good and Jordan Hamilton will have to knock down some threes. Josh Selby will have to have a great game. I think Texas will be pumped up after crushing the Aggies. Pick: This will be a close one, but Texas I think will win barely. This game is also my upset of the day.

Marquette @ Notre Dame: The Golden Eagles will have a quality win if they win this game. Notre Dame is slumping after getting crushed by St. Johns. Tim Abromatis has to have a good game for the Irish and Darius Johnson-Odom will have to have a good game too for the Golden Eagles. Pick: Marquette

Michigan State @ Purdue: Jajuan Johnson is riding high tide after hitting the game-winner against Penn State. Draymond Green looks to keep his good streak going as the Spartans go to Purdue. Pick: Purdue

Tennessee Falling?

January 18th 2011 01:06
The Tennessee Volunteers have lost two games against mid-major teams in the last 4 days. One game against Charlotte, one game against Oakland (in Michigan), and one aginst College of Charleston . Tennessee has beat Pittsburgh and Villanova. Those are two key wins. But why have they been losing after they have good wins? TWO WORDS: REALLY COCKY. The weird thing is that all of their losses has been at home against mid-majors. They have a good recruit named Tobias Harris who is one of the best players in the country. He hasn't been alive in their losses but has scored 25-30 points against the hard opponets. Scottie Hopson hasn't played well the whole season. Last year he was a surprise to be a great player but he is kind of like Stephen Pearl right now (meaning he can't hit a shot). Wayne Chism was a help last year but he did not get draft and got invitations from the Nets and Kings to join their summer league.

They are a better team this year because of all the suspensions. They've had a tough schedule but they've beat all the hard teams but lost to the easy teams. It should be the other way around.

Against the Oakland Unicorns (just kidding) they were doing quite good until about 8 minutes left in the second half and then they gave up. Oakland kept making free throws and won by seven, 89-82.

Against the Charlotte 49ers (that one I am not kidding about) it was a back and forth game and nobody had a good offensive game for both teams. It was all defense. With a minute to play, it was 40-39, Tennessee and it was basket after basket at each side of the court. There was twelve seconds to play and the score was 48-47 and Charlotte scored to make it 49-48. Bruce Pearl called a timeout and drew up a play. Well the play wasn't very effective and Cameron Tatum missed a three pointer about 5 feet behind the line and it only hit the backboard and time expired. They only needed a two-pointer to win and even I could draw up a play to get closer to the basket.

Against the College of Charleston they were never in the game. College of Charleston was always leading by 10 points. The final score was 91-78.

Tennessee is in not the hardest conference this year. They are in the SEC which is not doing very good this year. The only teams who are playing well this year in the SEC are the Florida Gators who knocked off Kansas State today 59-44, and the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Georgia Bulldogs. I think either the Big East, Big 12, or the Big Ten are the best conference.

Tennessee is off to a 1-2 start in the SEC. One loss was on the road against Arkansas and the other loss was at home against Florida in overtime. The win came in a big comeback against one of their rivals Vanderbilt. Bruce Pearl is in his 3rd game out of eight in his suspension. I think that has hurt the Volunteers in conference play.

College Basketball News and Notes

January 16th 2011 20:26
Here are some games I thought were interesting this weekend and players of the game.

Marquette @ Louisville: The Cards were losing by 18 with 5:44 left in the second half and the Cardinals came back and won ona game-winning shot by Kyle Kuric with four seconds left. Preston Knowles had a few threes to make it close and he is the the player of the game. The final score was 71-70, Louisville

Kentucky's Recruiting

January 15th 2011 00:22
The Wildcats have had the best recruiting classes for two years straight. It happened since John Calipari came to Kentucky. The 2009 class was John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe, and Daniel Orton. The 2010 class is Brandon Knight, Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb, and Stacey Poole. Poole has been a bust because Poole hasn't even played yet.

The 2011 class (next year) is going to be Marquis Teague, Michael Gilchrist, Anthony Davis, and Kyle Wiltjer (Canadian). There are three people in the top 100 that are considering Kentucky and they are DeAndre Daniels, Michael Chandler, and Trevor Lacey. All of those are in the top 55. If the Wildcats get those three players then they will be the best Kentucky team in the past three years
