TV or Not TV - by Jonathan Rosen

Lost

May 24th 2007 14:09
Hello all,
Hope everyone is having a great day. Watched the season finale of Lost last night and one word...Wow! I thought it was a great episode. Unfortunately, I had the episode ruined ahead of time because somebody posted the plotline on the message boards last week. I know it is my own fault for reading it, but I am an addict so it is not really my fault. The whole Flash Forward thing was good and now opens a whole bunch of other questions. (By the way, nice catch by some people that the funeral parlor name Hoffs/Drawlar is an anagram for flash forward.) Who was in the coffin? I have read speculation that it is either Ben or Sawyer. I guess it could be either since Kate didn't want to go and for Sawyer, I could imagine that at least Hurley would go. Unless, there is other speculation that only a few of them were rescued. And the thing that Jack realized that they had to get back to the island because he was wrong to leave in the first place. I know this doesn't make sense if you haven't seen it yet, but I am not recapping, just talking about it. Not enough time for a full recap today. Now the problem is having to wait until February for the next episode. That stinks. I also don't like that the episode number was decreased from 23 to 16. I love Lost and relish every episode and to think that there will be 7 fewer per year stinks, but at least they have a plan worked out. Also, poor Charlie. I read ahead of time that it was coming but was still upset by it. I know they do it to show nobody's safe, but I always hated the idea of killing off characters. That is why I like the show to begin with. You get attached to the characters and don't want to see them go. For a brief moment, I thought they were going to kill off Jack and I have to say, that would have been it. Jack is my favorite and they would have lost me if that happened. Counting the days until Februaury.

American Idol

May 16th 2007 17:43
Hi,
Sorry to post so late, it has been raining like crazy and I had to drive my mother-in-law to the airport. For those of you who know me, not even a hurricane was going to stop that from happening. Anyway, just a quick post to talk about American Idol last night.
I know what the judges say and everything, but is there a possible ending that none of them win? Usually, I have a favorite and I pull hard for them, but this year I have felt so underwhelmed that I wouldn't care if they called off the season and none of them win. I think everyone has been very inconsistent and nobody great.Even their personalities have been lacking. Just a dull, dull, season. For the record, I am rooting for Jordin, but if she doesn't win, eh...so what? I don't think she is above anybody else and I could even make a case for Blake winning. But again, who cares? I have fast forwarded thorough many of the performances after they start, just to hear the judges' comments. Anyway, don't have time now, but will post again tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good day.

King of Queens

May 15th 2007 13:37
Hello everybody,
Hope everyone is well. It is absolutely pouring over here. Just buckets. I had some plans to do but I think I'm going to reschedule. The good thing is that we needed the rain badly. I am in South Florida and we have water restrictions now because of the drought. My hedges were turning brown. One thing I need is my hedges, I am a very outgoing person but only away from my house. I hate seeing neighbors. I am so idiotic, that I peek out my window to see if anybody is outside before I leave the house. I'm like a hermit. Like Howard Hughes without the long nails and bottles of my own urine. Who knows, give me a year. No, I'm not that bad but the next home has to be in a countryside where my neighbors are half a mile away.I always thank the stars for my garage, so that I don't have to chit chat when I leave the house for my car. On to television.
Don't know if anybody saw the last episode of King of Queens last night. I must say that I love that show. I always find it to be laugh out loud and can't believe how under-appreciated it has been. I also didn't realize how long it has been on the air. For a show being on for so long, there really hasn't been any hoopla about it. It has always been in the shadows of other shows like Everybody loves Raymond. I thought they were both extremely funny. Kevin James cracks me up and I love that we had a love of the same sports teams(Mets and Jets) While you never know for sure, he seems like a likeable grounded person. Good luck in whatever it is that he does next. I of course haven't seen last night's episode because for those of you that have read my blob before, I am waaaaay behind on my tv viewing. We have only reached mid-December on our tivos, so are in the midst of the christmas themed shows. Thankfully, the season finales are coming up to give us a chance to catch up a little.
I am supposed to go out to register for a computer course at the community college to get a certificate. Trying anything to find employment somewhere else. We shall see. I don't know if a certificate is enough, but I have to start somewhere. Wish me luck.

Survivor and The Office

May 14th 2007 13:52
Good morning everyone,
Hope everyone had a great weekend and Mother's day! Now, on to Survivor. I enjoyed the show last night. I still think Dreamz is not the swiftest of people, but I do not fault him for going back on his word to Yau-man. The guy needs the money and so what, he got a $60,000 car, so he's supposed to give up a chance for 1 million dollars? I mean, c'mon! The only person he has to answer to at the end of the day is his kid and any parent would do a whole hell of a lot if it meant making a better life for their child. So he upset somebody that most likely he'll never see again? Who cares? I think just about everyone of us would have done the same thing. It always gets me on Survivor at all thee indignation and outrage shown by people on the jury. They are just angry that somebody got them before they got somebody else. I enjoy the show, but I do think it encourages lying and deception and it is not a good example to show children. That is why, I like the Amazing Race so much more. You don't have to backstab in that game. It is up to each team to decide their destiny.
Must also speak about The Office. I finally watched last Thursday's episode about the field trip to the beach. What a hysterical episode and then the nice poignant moment at the end when Pam tells Jim how she feels. Finally!!! I am afraid of what will happen to the show if they do get together, but enough with Karen already. Get to Jim and Pam

Lost

May 10th 2007 14:10
Happy Thursday to everyone,
Going to try to write quickly since as some of you know, on Tuesdays and Thursdays I take my son to speech therapy. I actually see some progress being made. More importantly, my son tries very hard and you see him attempting to make the proper sounds. I am very proud of him. Funny story from last week that I never wrote about. He is primarily working on th SH sounds right now and the teacher shows him cards with pictures and one of them was "chauffeur" and she showed him a picture of a man driving a car. My son said, "No, that's not a chauffeur, a chauffeur is a horn you blow on Rosh Hashanna. The teacher is Jewish as well, so she's the one that told me about it since she found it very funny.
On to last night television. I've said it before, when Lost is not good, it's still one of the better things on tv. When it's done right, there's absolutely nothing better. Last night's episode was fantastic. We saw the origins of Ben, played by the wonderful Michael Emerson. What a twisted little person he is, except they give him reasons. But still, that he was responsible for the deaths of almost all of the Dharma initiative. Just loved the episode. Thankfully I go and read the message boards after each show, because I missed something completely the first time watching it. (Yes, I am one of those people, nerds on the message boards) There was a man sitting in the rocking chair when Ben was speaking to "Jacob" After reading the boards, I watched the scene on Tivo in slow motion and saw him. Speaking of Locke, he had better not be dead. The same goes for Jack in the last episode. They are two of the biggest reasons why I love the show and I will seriously have a hard time watching if they are gone

Scrubs

May 2nd 2007 16:53
Hey everybody,
Another night last night of one show and then goodnight for my wife. At least we were able to watch Scrubs. It is one of my favorite shows. Sometimes it is silly, but more often than not, I am laughing out loud. We also watched Bones. ANother show, that I think of as CSI combined with Moonlighting. It is dramatic and funny and good chemistry and lots of sexual tension. I don't know how she keeps her hands off of David Boreanz....Oops, I shouldn't have said that out loud, right? Oh well, it's out now. We finally watched the one that she found out that Ryan O'neal was her father. I know, that was a long time ago. My wife was struggling to keep her eyes open but insisted that she was alright to continue and ten minutes into Scrubs, Zzzzzzz..... Once again, that is why we have 230 hours of television on our tivoes. Also, every morning, I watch the talk shows of the previous night. I have written this before, but night in and night out, Letterman is extremely funny. Not just him, but all the supporting characters as well. I especially love Alan Kalter, he just kills me. I loved his message to Rosie the other night, inviting her to be with him, since "being with a man is just like riding a bike." I'll leave you all on that note.
Until tomorrow

Catching up on shows.

May 1st 2007 18:16
Last night as usual, waited for my wife to get home from the gym to watch television. As I stated yesterday, we are 200 hours behind in viewing. She gets back from the gym at 8:45 p.m. and goes to sleep at 10. You do the math. We barely make any dents into our watching. We saw Men in Trees last night. I know it is basically a chick flick on tv, but I love the show. It is quirky by design and those are the type of shows I watch. Very amusing and funny. For a brief intance, I was annoyed when life interfered with art, when supposedly Anne Heche starting having an affair with her co-star who was married, but I tried to bring back the illusion in my mind and just focus on the characters. Television works much better that way. On my own I have been catching up with Thank G-d you're here. It is cute, but nowhere near as funny as Whose Line is it anyway was. If they were going to do another improv series, why not just keep Whose Line? Man, I wish I was in charge of a television network. Although, I'm sure that we'd have comedy and science fiction 24/7. I still wish, so if anybody is hiring, please let me know. Going to keep it short today, since I fell behind doing other things, but will write more tomorrow.

Jonathan

I'm Back

May 1st 2007 00:00
Hello to whoever reads this (and after being away for so long, I'm not sure there's anybody). I have actually taken time off to attempt to write a book. It is a children's book for the middle grades set, in the fantasy genre. Everybody wish me luck and if you're an agent or a publisher, remember that I've always loved you.
Anyway, on to television. As anyone who has read my blog before can attest, I am hopelessly behind in my television shows. My wife and I have tivos all through the house and record everything to watch later. We are approximately 240 hours behind in our television viewing and have already had a couple of shows erased. Do you realize how frustrating it is when at the beginning of a show they give you a recap of the previous shows and you have no idea what's going on? The only nice thing is that we are currently in December's shows which have all the holiday themes, so it's christmas in April for us. We have also had shows air and be cancelled before we even watched the first episode. We are hopeless and all of our family and friends make fun of us.
The only shows that I must watch as they happen, are the reality shows and Lost. I must watch Lost right away, because I am one of those people who patrol the message boards to discuss theories. I know some people have been down on the show because the answers don't come quickly enough. I don't understand what these people want. Do they want all the answers now? If so, then the show will go off the air, and I can't think of a show that is more riveting than that one. Not 24, not Heroes or even According to Jim. Just kidding, although we do watch that also. Nothing wrong with some mindless comedy as well. As far as Lost goes, just keep doing what you're doing and I am there. Lost at its worst, is still better than a lot of the other shows out there

Slow Thursday

December 21st 2006 16:32
Hi everybody,
Hope your day is good. Have all the kids home from school today so everything is hectic. Not a lot of new things on television this week as everything is in repeats. But I do tape the late night talk shows every night to watch the next morning. Just finished watching Letterman and Renee Zelwegger was on. May I be the first to say that I just don’t get her appeal? I think she’s one of those people that if she wasn’t famous we’d say “Eh.” She’s okay. I know she won an Oscar but so did Mira Sorvino. Can’t take her “acting” but to each his own I guess. But anyway, whenever she’s on talk shows, I just get the feeling that she doesn’t get “it.” I don’t want everybody to feel like I’m just picking on her but she just happened to be on now and it reminded me.
I have stated many times how I feel about ABC canceling Daybreak. I’m about to watch the first episode after the cancellation on the internet and am leery about it. Will let you know later how that went

Feeling Lost

December 20th 2006 16:00
Good morning everybody,
Due to the holiday week, most of the shows have been repeats and for that I am grateful. I have mentioned this before in other blogs that my wife and I are ridiculously behind in our television shows. See, we have 4 tivos in the house. One in my home office and 3 in various other rooms in the house. We have shows that we watch as a couple that we record on the other three and shows that I watch alone in my office. Because my wife works, she is very tired at night and after getting the three kids to bed, it really gives us a two hour window to watch television together between 8 and 10 p.m. Usually by 9:30, my wife’s eyes are closing and that last half hour is a struggle for her. Due to these circumstances, we have presently approximately 220 hours of television recorded on our tivos. It is tough to have conversations about shows with people since we are now basically watching season premiere week while everybody else is in mid season. It is also tough to avoid news about shows, so I have heard various things before actually getting to watch it. (Thankfully, my wife is not into the reality shows, so I get to watch those as they happen) Not the end of the world but it is frustrating. So everybody please keep the information to themselves, since my wife and I are going to watch an early season Prison Break tonight. Gee, I really hope that Tweener makes it to safety.
People who have read what I have written regularly know my dismay over ABC’s decision to pull Lost until February, just a horrible decision. At least I was enjoying Daybreak but now that’s been cancelled so I don’t get that and I’m still stuck without Lost. Lost is one of the shows that I watch the night it’s on, since my wife doesn’t like it (I know, she’s crazy). I’m obsessed. I read all the message boards searching for clues and need information as it happens. I am suffering immensely without it. Please ABC, please start it earlier and let me get a fix
