Relax on a Turkish Blue Cruise

June 7th 2011 03:48
By : Dan Williams

When most people think of cruise ships they imagine huge ocean going liners equipped with all kinds of luxuries where guests are treated to five star service as they are journeyed around the oceans, stopping over at busy resorts to disembark for sightseeing trips and excursions.

Cruising is still a very popular activity, particularly for older generations, who in some cases may have saved for many years before making their trip of a lifetime. Cruising along the southern coast of Turkey with one of the “Blue Cruise” companies is an altogether different proposition, but for the people who join one of these cruises, they are equally special as a holiday experience.

The south coast of Turkey is rapidly growing its profile as a major European holiday destination and, as well as the larger holiday resorts like Marmaris and Bodrum, there are many beautiful bays and coves that are still inaccessible by road. Travelling by sea brings all of these places within easy reach.

The boats used on the Blue Cruises are traditional Turkish craft known as Gulets. These are wooden built boats of varying sizes that are capable of taking between 6 and 20 guests at any one time. The boats have motors for use when required but can also travel under sail for the ultimate relaxing voyage. The Gulet is skippered by a captain who is helped by a crew of deckhands, chefs and other staff, who all work to ensure passengers have a perfect holiday. Although the boats are very comfortable inside this is not the typical luxury cruise provided the bigger cruise ships. What make these trips memorable are the peaceful and beautiful locations the ships are able to visit.

It is possible to charter a whole Gulet as a private party for exclusive use, but more commonly people charter a number of cabins and share the boat with other guests. Gulets are operated by private individuals as well as cruise operators who may run a fleet of boats.

It is still possible to charter very luxurious boats and one example is the Cobra Queen, a recently built Gulet providing 5 luxurious air conditioned cabin accommodation for up to 10 guests. The boat is operated by a dedicated crew of 5 and the level of luxury includes en suite bathrooms with massage showers and DVD/ TV and music systems.

The term Blue Cruise refers to the colour of the crystal clear waters in this part of the Eastern Mediterranean where spectacular bays and coves are around almost every headland. As well as anchoring up in remote secluded locations the Gulets also use the popular marinas at Antalya, Gocek, Mamaris, and Bodrum. Guests typically book flights to Turkey for arrival at an airport such as Bodrum or Dalaman before being picked up by the cruise company and transported to their boat.

A typical day on a Blue Cruise involves waking to warm sunshine and eating breakfast on deck followed by a couple of hours cruising to a new location. The Gulet will then moor or anchor for lunch and maybe a spot of swimming or just relaxing in the shade during the hottest part of the day. After packing up lunch another short cruise usually takes the boat to another secluded cove or perhaps a modern marina for a more cosmopolitan overnight stay. The bigger boats also carry a choice of watersports equipment to enjoy during the frequent stops. Windsurfers, ribs and jet skis are just some of the extras carried by larger Gulets.

The Turkish author Cevat Sakir is credited with originating the Blue Cruise concept after he was exiled to the region for inappropriate political stories. He decided to get to know the coastline by going out with local fishermen and writing about the places he had seen and the interesting history of the region. He would take visiting intellectuals on trips around the Gulf of Gokova which then became known as Blue Cruises. Sakir has been honoured with a monument based on a bronze bust of Sakir being erected in front of the castle in Bodrum.

Author Resource:- Dan Williams has visited many resorts on the southern Turkish coast from Bodrum eastwards. Holiday destinations there are becoming more popular and operators like http://book.flythomascook.com are providing more flights to airports such as Antalya, Bodrum and Dalaman.

Disney Rides at Magic Kingdom

May 31st 2011 16:32

There is something so very magical about Disney World, everything about it brings out your inner child making you feel full so of life for the duration of your stay. I love Disney World but I do have a favourite Disney park which for me is Magic Kingdom. The last time we went my children were 7 and 9 (and my parents 60 and 63) and it was just fantastic. There were so many of the Disney rides and attractions that all three generations could enjoy together to create fantastic memories.

The Disney rides that the kids enjoyed the most were Big Thunder Mountain Railroad which is a runaway train roller coaster and The Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Big Thunder Mountain is located in Frontierland along with another of our top Disney rides which was Splash Mountain a water flume adventure ride. One of my favourites has always been It's a Small World which is an indoor boat ride through scenes from many countries of the World, with the catchy "It's a small world"song played as you go along. When I come off that ride I find myself humming the tune from the ride for at least the next hour! It's a Small world really is one the whole family can enjoy this ride is in Fantasyland along with another couple of our favourite rides Cinderella's Golden Carousel which is a beautiful carousel ride and the Dumbo the flying Elephant, which is a very popular Disney ride for children both of these rides the whole family went on together.

Of course different height restrictions apply for different Disney Rides so check these out preferably before you go, we found it easier when planning our Disney vacation to find out which Disney rides the kids could definitely not go on then we could avoid them and because they knew beforehand if they were too small it didn't cause a problem but to be totally honest I think there was only one ride that my son wanted to go on that he was too small for anyway. Also think about getting fast passes for some of the popular Disney Rides such as Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Another one of our favourites in Magic Kingdom was Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin it's an interactive space adventure based on Toy Story 2, an outer space themed ride which was loads and loads of fun. This ride is in Tomorrowland which is also where the Tomorrowland Speedway is this is a ride where you drive your own race car the kids really enjoyed this one. So these are just a few of my families favourite Disney rides, but I'm sure you'll find your own favourites when you go there and start creating your own special Walt Disney World memories.

If the time has come for your vacation or a holiday getaway, read this article before making your plans. There are many places of great beauty and interest to be seen in the USA and Europe. But, whether transportation, touring, theme park, or food and lodging, it is expensive. This article is written for every traveler, whether a backpacker on a budget, or a first class - five star traveler.

Travel in Asia is inexpensive and opens the door to different cultural experiences. Planning can be for a short holiday, an extended stay, or choices of laying the groundwork for the ultimate stay, retirement. Nowadays, with so many opportunities to make money using the Internet it is not out of the question to "retire" early.

Medical Tourism in Asia growing in popularity. It is high quality and affordable. Just one of International standard hospitals in Bangkok serves 400,000 international patients annually, In the USA cataract surgery for one eye runs around $8,000. At a prestigious International hospital in Thailand cataract surgery can be performed on both eyes for around $2,500. It is possible to have quality medical care, and an Asian holiday, for a fraction of the cost of the same procedure in the USA.

Let us take a tantalizing glimpse at just some of the countries.

Thailand - Land of Smiles. Often referred to as the most exotic country in Southeast Asia. A visit to the Grand Palace in Bangkok for sure. Trips to a floating market or to the Bridge on the River Kwai. From pristine beaches in the Southern Islands to the Northern mountains with its waterfalls, elephants bathing in mountain streams, and Hill Tribe villages.

India - Delhi is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. India Gate, an imposing structure, has emerged as one of the most popular tourist spots in Delhi. The Red Fort Delhi, a masterpiece of architecture, is a popular spot. A trip to India would not be complete without a visit to Agra, famous as the site of one of the world's most romantic, graceful and photographed buildings, the Taj Mahal.

Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos - Three small countries neighboring Thailand. Each opens a different world of exploration. Cambodia - the highlight is visiting Angkor Wat, an architectural masterpiece constructed in the jungle in the early 12th century. Vietnam - is a varied country, offering beaches, mountains and hundreds of years of history from the ancient Cham Towers to remnants from the Vietnam War. Laos - savor the crafts, culture and hospitality of Laos with a river trip, visits to ancient temples, gorgeous palaces, and traditional villages.

Nepal - Adventure, travel, trekking, birding, wildlife, and cultural & overland Safaris. Take an air flight along the Himalayas and view magnificent Mount Everest. Nearby, discover the serene beauty of Tibet, the country which inspired the Dalai Lama.

Indonesia - Jakarta, the capital city of the world's fourth most-populous nation. Bali is Indonesia's main holiday destination. Flores is a pretty lush green island with forests, palm and banana trees, rice fields and many volcanoes. Highlights are the three small offshore islands of "Gillis" that invite snorkeling, diving and relaxing. For hikers, a climb to the top of the volcano Rijani.

Philippines - An island nation comprising over 7,000 islands in the western Pacific Ocean.
Manila, the bustling capital has powerful reminders of the country's past, along with attractive parks, fine museums, and exhilarating nightlife. The Ifugao Rice Terraces are a testimony to the early technological advancement of the Ifugao people. Take a jeepney ride to the market. Be brave, try balut, a Philippine delicacy. Go diving in the Visayas.

Singapore - Shopping on famous Orchard Road, the dream of every woman. The Night Safari at Singapore Zoo is fabulous. Chinatown, a little glitzy, but you can buy all the souvenirs you want there. Interestingly, one of Singapore's most beautiful Hindu temples is smack dab in the middle of Chinatown. Decide if a Singapore Sling is worth the hype in the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel. There's more to Singapore than urban glitz, like rambling in the rain forest of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

Japan - Tokyo is the capital city and home of the Imperial Residence and Emperor's Palace. Select a popular destination or region in Japan and explore its attractions. Ride the Bullet Train to the magnificent city of Kyoto. Visit Hiroshima and the Peace Memorial Park. Castles, temples, gardens, the list of top destinations in Japan is too long for this article..

Taiwan - Taipei, the country's booming, vibrant capital remains steeped in Chinese, Japanese and native Taiwanese cultures. Some of its most impressive sights include the Grand Hotel, topped by the largest Classical Chinese roof in the world, the Shihlin Night Market, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial with the National Theater and Concert Hall located directly across from each other on the grounds. A popular day trip is Tailuge (Taroko Gorge), considered one of the natural wonders of the world.

Hong Kong - the Pearl of East and jewel of The Orient. Nathan Road is lined with shops, restaurants, nightspots and cheap places to stay. If you're in Hong Kong with the little ones, they'll probably appreciate Ocean Park (aquarium), Water World (swimming pools and water slides), and of course Disneyland. If you're in Hong Kong for more than a few days, then there's plenty of outlying islands to discover.

It is often said that for the traveler that has seen it all and done it all, there is still Katmandu, Nepal. And, that too is in Asia!

If you do not visit Asia, you will be missing not only a paradise of affordable travel, but the chance to see an alternative living location. For retirees, it is luxury living for pennies, not just getting by on their pension. Asia, a paradise experience is waiting for you.

Brian Bees has lived and worked in Asia for 28 years.

The warm weather is here, school is about out, it must be the beginning of summer vacation. Your high school and college years are the times you will really be able to enjoy summer vacation since you are old enough to go places on your own yet you are still young enough that you do not have a family or a full time job that demands all your free time

If you have ever stayed in a hotel with your family, you will know only too well how expensive it can be. Even modest hotels can cost $130 per night for a family room which is equivalent to $32.50 per person per night for a family of four. In the high season it can be even more with prices often going up to $50 (and more) per more person per night. And who, after all wants to spend their precious holiday in France in a simple hotel with their children in the same room

Especially for tourists, accessibility is very important. Whether it is a budget hotel or a luxury apartment in Cannes, it should be close to as many places of interest as possible. Ideally it should be located near the Palais des Festivals and the Croisette beaches. And since it is advisable for tourists to travel on foot so as to imbibe the beauty of Cannes, it is best that the place of stay be walking distance from these tourist spots.

Especially if you are visiting during summer, you have to make sure that your accommodation in Cannes has air conditioning. This is important considering that the temperature during this time of year ranges from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. Although breeze from the Mediterranean will keep you pleasantly cool at night, the daytime could become uncomfortably warm for some. So you have to ascertain exactly what you are getting in terms of accommodations
